Good to hear 1240-WKIQ back on the air

I was driving to an appointment and noticed that 1240-WKIQ in Eustis is back on the air with Sporting News Radio as the base format. It appears that Lake County now has a full-time sports station.

That's me Deano. Brought it back on about a month ago - running SNR until we can bring in local programming. If all goes fairly well, a purchase is in the plans. Still getting the kinks out, but we will be running piles of high school sports starting tonight with a Eustis football game.

Thanks for noticing -my wife and I are busting our tails to get it going. It was in really bad shape from sitting dormant. Stop by next time you are in the area.

O.K. Walters

It is good to hear 1240-WKIQ back on the air. I'm showing my age, but there is just something magical about a class IV AM station that is trying to serve it's community. Listening from the fringe of your signal yesterday reminded me of many moons ago when I lived in Kansas City, Missouri and would drive around listening to 1450-KOKO from 60 miles away in Warrensburg or 1490-KDRO from 80 miles away in Sedalia. On that good Midwest ground conductivity their 1000 watt signals produced giant footprints, but all that came out of the speakers was local radio for Warrensburg or Sedalia.

I know that a radio start-up is a tough road to hoe but the Golden Triangle and Leesburg needs a live and local 1240-WKIQ. Here's wishing you and your wife much success!

Glad to hear WKIQ is back up and running. I knew the place needed some help. Last time I was down, I couldn't hear it at all (car radio) in either Ocala or Orlando. Used to get into both places, although it would fight with Melbourne as you drove east of I-4. Bad transmitter and/or rotted ground system, I reckon (?)

Deano, I hate to be a geek...but wasn't it tough to hear KDRO in KC, due to KTOP also being on 1490? (I spent some time in Kansas radio, so I'm somewhat familiar with the contours.)

Hey MN Maniac, all I could hear in Independence, MO (13 miles east of downtown Kansas City) was country music on "Audio One Forty-Nine, K-DRO radio." No doubt you could hear the modulation swish of the 1480 licensed to Mission, KS, but outside of critical hours KDRO was usually quite readable in the daytime.

Other than the heterodyne of the two signals mixing together, no trace of KTOP on my side of town.
