Good Tropo in Southern Michigan!

This Summer has been pretty disappointing with tropo and e-skip. I have caught a few stations via e-skip and some tropo stations through short-haul DX, but tonight was probably the first good tropo this summer.

Here's a look at what I got from Coldwater, MI.

93.5- WRQN- Bowling Green, OH- Oldies

93.7- WRCL- Frankenmuth, MI- Hip-hop- (Club 93-7)

97.9- WJLB- Detroit, MI- Hip-hop- (FM 98 WJLB)

And then I found out which direction the best tropo was coming from...

93.7- WFRR- Walton, IN- Religious- WFRN repeater. Probably the best i've heard this one come in!

98.1- WIBN- Earl Park, IN- Oldies

92.3- WPWX- Hammond, IN- Hip-hop (Power 92) This station is a pretty frequent visitor here.

95.9- WKUZ- Wabash, IN- Country- Not a new catch, but strong enough to wipe out semi-local WLKM Three Rivers, MI. Always nice to hear this one.

96.1- WHNN- Bay City, MI- Oldies (Oldies 96) This one is way out in center field compared to these other stations, but it still made it in, so it's pretty noteworthy.

96.5- WAZY- Lafayette, IN- CHR (Z-96.5) Probably the best i've ever heard this station. Crushed semi-local WFAT-Portage, MI.

100.1- WFRI- Winamac, IN- WFRN simulcast. This is only the 2nd or 3rd time i've heard this one.

89.7- WUBS- South Bend, IN- Not sure of an official format on this one. They were playing gospel when I first tuned in and hip-hop 30 minutes later when I closed up shop for the evening.

97.5- WHMS- Champaign, IL- AC- (Lite Rock 97.5) Heard with Delilah and official TOH. Only the third time i've heard this one.

99.3- WKVI- Knox, IN- AC- Wiped out local WMSH-Sturgis, MI. Didn't get an official ID on this one, but I knew it was them because of the crappy processing and sleepy music that I remember sitting through when I first confirmed this one in March of 2004.

100.5- WWKI- Kokomo, IN- Country- (KI-100.5) Pretty frequent tropo visitor here.

102.1- WIMT- Lima, OH- Country- (T-102) Heard over semi-local WMUK-Kalamazoo, MI

88.7- WPCD- Champaign, IL- College- (The Beat) Hip-hop program. WPCD is usually a sure sign of tropo from the southwest.

95.3- WAOR- Niles, MI- Classic Rock- Heard over semi-local WBXX-Battle Creek, MI

99.1- WXLS- Danville, IL- Classic Rock- (Extra 99.1) With mention of Champaign Co. fair.

99.7- WSHW- Frankfort, IN- Hot AC- (Shine 99) Playing 'Beverly Hills' by Weezer. Was hoping this was Springfield's Kiss FM, as I didn't think Shine would ever touch this song..

100.3- WIXY- Champaign, IL- Country (Wixy 100.3) Not only is this my lone new catch (#636) of the night, it's also my most impressive catch. I pulled this in over local WLKI-Angola, IN which is only 17 miles away from my location.

103.7- WHZR- Royal Center, IN- Country. Only the 2nd or 3rd time i've heard this one.

105.3- WKOA- Lafayette, IN- Country (K105) Another good sign of tropo from the southwest.

92.1- WROI- Rochester, IN- Oldies. Heard over local WCSR-Hillsdale, MI, just 17 miles away from my location.
______________

This was between 9:30 and 10:00 on Monday night.

It's pretty funny that I heard this, because it's totally in left-field compared to everything else I was getting from Champaign/Urbana and Lafayette. I actually tuned it to 102.1 trying to get D102 from Danville, IL but the imaging voice clearly said 'The New T-102'.
______________

I've been hearing that, too... they and WMUK are really having to fight it out for dominance on my radio. And this isn't just during tropo, this is happening every night!
______________

I'll have to tell Gordy and the crew at WIMT that you heard them. When I head up to chicago I usually loose T 102 about Columbia City with MUK starting to come in. Early Tuesday morning I was getting Detriot stations over local WFGF 93.1 and WLWD 93.9. My best one was 107.7 Kalamazoo and 98.5 Coldwater(I think).
I have yet to hear Chicago stations here, as well as, big signals like WBCT or WOOD.

How long had this been going on? They did do some antenna work back months ago after the ice storm.

98.5 is WNWN from Coldwater, which happens to be my hometown.

Also, if you were getting WRKR and WNWN, then WBCT should have been a gimme for you. WOOD, not so much. Probably not with WZOM in Defiance. Next time you hear WRKR or WNWN, definitely try for 'Big Daddy' B-93.
______________

It started quite some time after the storm, fairly recently... I'd say back around mid-May.
______________

Where about are you in Michigan? Can you get T 102 during the day?

Re: Good Tropo FROM Southern Michigan!

Heard a couple of things last night near Dayton, OH in the car. T102 Lima (what a kick-butt signal..they were full quieting, then I believe I heard WMUZ on 103.5 with religious programming about even with WGRR. I heard the Smooth Jazz on 98.7, no WOMC though. I heard something on 102.5 that wasn't WMDH, New Castle, In or WHIZ, Zanesville, OH, with Classic Rock and mention of "Citadel".
______________
