"Good Vibrations" and "Mellow Yellow"

Has anyone heard or have a copy of Good Vibrations or Mellow Yellow, 2 songs that I've never heard OTA radio play a true stereo version of?

Aren't the TM Gold Disk versions stereo? Or is is "processed" stereo?

What's the "TM Gold Disc", David? Do you have a link? I've been listening lately to an Internet Oldies station out of Topeka called "Oldies 104". (I'm at home now, the link is on my computer at work... I'll try to provide a link later this week) Anyway, up until Friday, I had never heard "Mellow Yellow" in Stereo. I have on LP Donovan's Greatest Hits and that song was maybe the only one not in Stereo if memory serves me correctly. On Friday I heard this Internet station Oldies 104 play a real true stereo version of it. Sounded great. I happened to have my Replay radio recording it so now I have burned it (and other songs) to a CD. Earlier in the week I heard a real true stereo version of "Good Vibrations" ... I have several Beach Boys collection LPs and CDs and have never ever heard that one in stereo either.

EDIT: Gotta love Google 8) !!! Found the link!

TM Century with its HitDisk(tm) and GoldDisk(tm) services has weekly new release services in about 6 formats and libraries on CD for several. The library cuts were very well done in most cases, using label masters when possible. TM is at http://tmcentury.com/music.asp

I don't think GOOD VIBRATIONS has ever or likely every will be released in TRUE stereo.

The vocal masters are missing.

What you likely heard, and I have, is a REMIXED version where someone mixed the TRUE STEREO backing music with vocals.

I listened to it on separate channels. The "stereo" version, when you turn the dial to one channel, sounds exactly like the 45 hit mono version.

The left channel has a part that has vocals (from an alternate take) of Brian Wilson singing "Good vibrations, yeah!" and some other anamolies.

Sounds good though.

ALso, if there were a true ST version out there, it would likely have appeared in the 40th anniversary edition.

Do a search on this site. They've gone over the issue many times.

Doug I really appreciate your post. When I have time tomorrow I'll look at that link. What you said makes sense. I'm waiting for "Oldies 104" to play Good Vibrations again. I'll be recording it. They did a good job ... Had me convinced.

To David, thanks for that link as well. I'll look at that tomorrow. Gotta go now... Desperate Housewives is coming on soon !! ;D

I have Good Vibrations in stereo, but I don't remember if it was one of those Beach Boys studio sessions disks or if I got the stereo backing track and did a sync-up (since my music library is in storage due to my moving I can check). The Donovan song I think I may have heard in stereo once, and I don't recall if it was a sync up or electronically produced.

It is about as close to a stereo mix as we're likely to get. According to some people from BSN the tape that contained original vocal track from Good Vibrations was destroyed either by accident or on purpose...

The stereo backing track exists and can be found on the Capitol records Beach Boys box set.

I found several good synch ups of Good Vibrations back in the days of Napster. Also found a "stereo: version of Mellow Yellow on there. That one sounded like the original mono synched with a more recent kareoke instrumental. Interesting, but I'll take the original mono cut on that one unless someone has come up with a stereo master or an original backing track to synch it with.

Here's a discussion of the issue.

What you have heard are likely remixes.

I have some good REMIXES/ SYNCH-UPS of these songs, also only in mono:

-I GET AROUND ( I would LOVE to hear this one in REAL stereo. I've heard the synch-ups that Dick Bartley and others play. I have one as well- stereo background (missing the lead guitar middle solo)... )

HELP ME RHONDA
THE LITTLE GIRL I ONCE KNEW
- The above from BEACH BOYS TODAY! and SUMMER DAYS AND SUMMER NIGHTS LPs are mostly mono. Thank goodness CALIFORNIA GIRLS was remixed to TRUE stereo.

-DO IT AGAIN (again, master tapes lost, while rest of the LP it was on is mostly stereo).

Good Vibrations is my favorite song, along with WOULDN"T IT BE NICE, CALIF. GIRLS, I GET AROUND,
25 or 6 TO 4, OLD DAYS, MAKE ME SMILE, etc.
