Goodby to an [s]old[/s] elderly friend

No, the HTML commands do not work in the title field!

It finally hit me that without any special media access, I never listen to the public radio station I've been supporting for several years. Their local events schedules, weather updates, enhanced underwriting, TOH newscasts, etc, build up to create a very twentieth century listening experience in the twenty first century. With several months of hemming and hawing, I have added SiriusXM internet service to my satellite radio account, gotten many times the number of customizable services, many with personalities, and am out for well under ½ of what I had been paying.

What value does public radio provide that satellite and internet radio do not offer for just a few more ¢/day?
This poster can not find any.

Maybe the most altruistic answer to your question is: When you support your Public Radio Station, your support along with many others makes it possible for some of your neighbors who cannot afford SirriusXM Internet, or even Internet period... and people who are not into modern technology to continue to have access to some good listening.

I would also point out that beyond the listening pleasure you and I enjoy, have enjoyed from NPR.... some of the support given to them has been invested in their internal research that seems to be developing technology for ALL broadcasters and ALL distributors of audio content.

I don't propose that you lose sleep over this. I don't intent to hang a "guilt trip" around your neck. But I do hope that you don't somehow feel the need to punish your public radio station. I hope you are not encouraging other people to consider punishing public radio.

Enjoy your newly found friend.

Not punishing anyone, just don't feel the value is there, and it was not an NPR station, but an APMG classical station and occasionally an independent jazz station.
Now, I just need to unravel this thing on my neck before I get to sleep ;D
