Goodbye ABC News

WABC Radio is in its last days as an ABC News affiliate. How strange will it be come the morning of January 1st to no longer hear that familiar sounder at the top of then hour. Sad....

Its pathetic WABC airing the same infomercial on sat and sunday night at the same time.....i'll work for $15hour hosting a talk show.

is it really that bad that paying someone $15 hour is too expensive on a 50,000 watt station?

It's not about paying someone, it's about income. Those shows make big bucks consistently for them 52 weeks a year. That's the way Cumukus rolls. They'd rather make $1000 an event than 10 events @ $10.

My guess that maybe WICC in Stamford, CT, WLS in Chicago, KABC in LA,The three Hudson Valley stations WGNY, WGNY-FM and WJGK are losing ABC News Radio staring tomorrow. I'm going to record the entire day of "Fox Oldies" starting tomorrow morning with Joe Manglass where he is still filling in for Van Ritshie while he is on vacation, and on its sister station "The Fox", Bob O and Lorrie G will be doing mornings as well, and then on "Fox Oldies", Bob O will be on after he leaves its sister station "The Fox" to do middays and then Buffalo Bob Corsino is going to be on and then back to Joe Manglass once again for evenings for the whole night until midnight when it rings in 2015. And then right about 11 PM, "Fox Oldies" will be carrying the final night of "ABC News Now" and then at midnight, it will be the launch of WW1 News. ABC Radio is now going to be part of Skyview, but I hope ABC Radio will be on other stations elsewhere.

WGN in Chicago is getting ABC Radio, and so does KFI in LA, WTOP in Washington DC and other stations elsewhere will get their ABC Radio brand. Will see what happens.

As I understand it, Cumulus owns the ABC Radio News network. They have been paying ABC/Disney for the rights to use the ABC name and have access to the ABC TV Network news feeds and reports. About a year ago it was discussed on the Atlanta boards that Cumulus would not be renewing.

This is fuzzy memory. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

zebvt was

Disney owns ABC radio network / ABC News Radio.

Citadel bought the ABC O&O radio stations and the distribution part of the ABC Radio Network with the news operation still owned by Disney ABC. Cumulus bought Citadel and got the remaining years of the ABC News distribution. That contract expired at midnight 12/31/14. Good bye ABC Radio News from Cumulus stations.

And like I said, I was just listened to WABC on my iHeartRadio yesterday, and at the top of the hour, it goes straight to local news instead of ABC News, that means Cumulus is not going to carry ABC News anymore. It replaced with WW1 News service from CNN. I also checked on TuneIn that "Fox Oldies" is still carrying ABC News, that means all of the Sunrise HV stations are now keeping ABC News at the top of the hour and it is not going to change anytime soon. ABC News Radio is now part of the new Skyview Networks as a distribution partnership. I hope one day, it might popped up on other stations elsewhere.

According to ABC, they have signed up a large number of the stations that had been with them under the Cumulus deal. You know they will want Nyc clearance for spots, so let's see who gets it.

1010 WINS runs ABC News. They don't use the newscasts but they do use voice reports and sound bites - and of course, the spots.

As of yesterday (Jan. 1) they no longer.

WINS is, however, now affiliated with the new WW1 service. I assume that was a "gift" from CBS to Cumulus, as Cumulus/WW1 is the syndicator/distributor for CBS Radio's network products (news, commentary pieces, sports, etc). The affiliation allows Cumulus/WW1 to get the spots on the air. WINS gets a source for national news content.

KFI in Los Angeles does NOT now nor has it ever carried ABC news.

They were for many years an NBC affiliate (in ancient times the NBC Red network, not the Blue which became ABC).

Today KFI is part of the Fox/Premiere national contract (both Premiere and KFI are owned by iHeart Media)

WPHT 1210 does the same thing too. Air infomercials on weekends and other brokered programming.

Not that it is a NYC station, but it is Hudson Valley -- WKNY switched back to CBS News on 12/16 after about a year and a half with ABC News simply because the newscast was nowhere up to par....once WKNY had been purchased from Cumulus by Townsquare they were no longer obligated to carry ABC.

To be honest I hadn't noticed the absence of ABC TOH news on WABC but I have noticed in increase in those dopy "features" that are apparently a cheap way to fill unsold space. Maybe there's a connection ... I'll have to listen more closely.

Live, local, on it...that's what WABC seems to think is a winning combination! Watch out for those rating's explosions with this incredible formula!
