Goodbye "BravesRadio 640 GST", hello "640 WGST"

The ever changing name change continues, with the dropping of the "BravesRadio" moniker all together. They are now calling themselves just "640 WGST". Interesting that they didn't go back to "NewsRadio" that they had beeen using for years.

I guess an association with (pick one) ,didn't help?

1) Braves
2) Olympics information
3) Regular Guys
4) Kimmer
5) Tom Hughes

now now, let's not be all negative. They have had Boortz, Hannity, Paul Harvey and Clark Howard. Let's give credit where credit is due.

I hear the change was made at the request of the Atlanta Braves. Would you want YOUR baseball franchise name associated with a station that can't even maintain a two share?

GST-Get Some Talent

They've also designed a new logo that exemplifies their recent performance. It features a skull and crossbones over a bank of empty phone lines.

Hey what about Ralph from Ben Hill?

The people here are always slamming WGST, but I listen them all the time and really enjoy Rush Limbaugh's show. When Tom Hughes has contests for prizes the phone's busy and they have callers that respond and it's been over a year since I was able to get through and that was only because I called before the question was asked.

I must admit Kimmer is pretty lame and can't beat Clark Howard. If someone is telling a joke Kimmer has heard (but not necessarily this listener) he cuts in and ruins the joke. He's not really funny and works awfully hard to be likable. The Larry from Hiram is sometimes funny, maybe not as consistently funny as Gossett's Newsmaker calls.

I did like Denny Schaffer's taking on the AJC when they attack Governor Perdue of doing what was necessary to attract the Kia plant when they took advantage of the same offer plus more. Never heard Boortz expose or address this and because he avoided it lost a lot of respect for him.

Get Some Talent is the right answer

GST has a weak signal at night you can bearly hear them out side of 285, about the only one that is worth mentioning that is good talent is The Kimmer GST needs to fade in the sunset Clear Channel needs to get rid of GST and let it be known that the power house station on the AM side of Radio is News Talk 750 WSB they are the kings of AM Talk here in Atlanta Not 680 the Fan not 790 the Zone. Some quick respones here to your statements:

>>>The people here are always slamming WGST, <<<

Because the station is a complete and total disaster and has been for years. Do you not agree? Tell us why not!

>>>but I listen them all the time and really enjoy Rush Limbaugh's show.<<<

Hardly an endorsement of the station to say that you listen to Limbaugh! Do you think for a second Rush and Premiere would not want to be on WSB if they could, instead of where they are? The station's problem is that they've never parlayed the cume they get from Rush into some TSL for the rest of the station. I wonder if anyone in that place knows what "cume" and "TSL" are, or if they need those phrases explained to them. I have heard that Bloomquist is a smart guy, and he's made some very positive moves by getting rid of Pete Davis and others...yet Kimmer and Hughes remain....what gives?

>>> When Tom Hughes has contests for prizes the phone's busy and they
> have callers<<<

All that means is that there are 5-10 octogenarians in this town who know that if they dial a certain number at a certain time, they might get something for free. Listen to the ages of the "winners" and you'll know what I mean. Hughes's show is completely and totally DEAD and has been that way for many years.

>>>that respond and it's been over a year since I was able to get through and that was only because I called before the question was asked. <<<

See above. They have only 5 call-in lines. You do the math.

>>> I must admit Kimmer is pretty lame and can't beat Clark
Howard. <<<

So you're defending a station... that has a host in afternoon drive who even you think is "lame". Did you know that WGST has a chance to get the Hannity show in 2001 and passed so they could keep Kimmer? Look at the Winter book to see the results of THAT decision.

>>>If someone is telling a joke Kimmer has heard (but not necessarily this listener) he cuts in and ruins the joke.<<

Because in Kimmer's mind, he always has to be the one to deliver the punch line. If he had a real producer to work with him, instead of some unfunny flunkie reading live spots, maybe he'd be coached out of that annoying habit.

>>>He's not really funny and works awfully hard to be likable. The Larry from Hiram is sometimes funny, maybe not as consistently funny as Gossett's Newsmaker calls.<<<

I think that anyone who actually considered Jim Gossett to be even remotely funny should be placed in a mental health facility. But that's just me.

>>> I did like Denny Schaffer's taking on the AJC when they attack Governor Perdue of doing what was necessary to attract the Kia plant when they took advantage of the same offer plus more. Never heard Boortz expose or address this
and because he avoided it lost a lot of respect for him.<<<

Denny is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing...but he'll never win against Boortz. Ever. I'm still scratching my head and wondering why he left a very high-profile and secure gig in Cincinnatti to come here and get his ass kicked every day by a 6 to 1 margin. I'm sure he was promised the world...because that's how the vile scum in the BOD operate....To each his own I guess.

Look out WSB! We're coming for you! 10 share here we come!

Until they fire Hughes and the Kimmer and start programming around Rush they way they should be doing, they might as well call themselves "Mashed Potatoes WGST" because it really wouldn't matter.

I assumed with the recent hires in the newsroom, they were changing their name to "Hooters Radio WGST".

What evidence do you have that Bloomquist is a "smart guy"? Randall has never increased ratings at any station he's programmed.(except by leaving)
Besides, how "smart" could you be to take that job in the first place?

Re: WGST is the best station in the A-T-L

Let's be honest friends...GST is, without a doubt, the best radio station in the whole city! Their news is second to none, their traffic reports are right on the money! Their programming is absolutely perfect and shouldn't be changed. The Kimmer is the funniest person to ever have the pleasure of working in this city! Denny is AWESOME! They've got everyone beat. The REAL reason WGST doesn't have any ratings is that there is a vast left-wing conspiracy that involves illegal Democratic fundraising, the war in Iraq and Pamela Anderson (although exactly HOW she fits in is still a mystery but then...who cares!)

WGST is the only station I have ever seen that could BENEFIT from changing their format to all polka, all the time.
