Goodbye Captain Pat Adams

I believe I heard that Capt. Pat is retiring on Wednesday the 22nd.

Anyone have an idea how many years he's been on the air? I know he used to fly in the copter for WMC radio and was a Lieutenant at the time, but I don't know when he actually started.

He's a character, and he'll be missed. If Dan Lenzini liked him, he's gotta be alright.

Capt. Pat doesn't read this forum (and I'm not sure he even owns a computer at home), so hopefully someone over at Citadel will read him a few comments.

Pat Adams is, I think, one of the most down to earth, honest people I've worked with in Memphis. He's a man of principle, and that's a great thing in an age where everyone just wants to do his or her own thing. Pat always speaks what's on his mind, and from a radio point of view, it's that kind of candor which endears him to his listeners.

Pat told me for several years that he wanted to retire. I honestly think he really loved his position doing mornings, however. He certainly had the best post-retirement job one could ever want. In the end, however, I think Pat wants to have more time for his family. And he's certainly entitled.

Let me be the first to chime in and say THANKS, Capt. for being a friend to me, and for being a damn good person. Best of luck in retirement, all the best to you and your family.

And thus ends the last of the heritage staff at Kix 106. Memphis Mark was the previous record holder, and when I left, Capt. Pat was the last man standing, so to speak.

So now the obvious question is, who gets to do morning traffic? Matty O'Shea?
Jay & Brian... how did you guys manage to let Pat retire?

He will be missed. Enjoy the rest, Captain Pat!

Truly is the end of an era.

OK, now that I have said the important postive comments, now we can kid a bit. And, we kid because we love, right?!

With Captain Pat free in the mornings, does this mean that Carrie McClure is somehow less secure?

With Cap'n gone, does this at all increase the chances of Debbie Montgomery returning?

With Cap'n gone, and the average age of the morning show dropping some 40 or 50 years, will the demos be impacted?

With Cap'n gone, who is gonna recount stories of arresting Elvis, hmmmm?

Oh, we could go on, couldn't we?

Good luck, Pat. You left radio in Memphis better than you found it.

Y'know, Capt. Pat actually survived a couple of copter crashes during his days at WMC...
