Goodbye Coast

If this is indeed true, it is a damn shame. Whether mornings become syndicated and the current format stays - or whether they simulcast the syndicated crap on WHJJ - Coast could have survived. Providence has room for a Hot/Modern AC station with personality, something similar to WBMX in Boston that would sit musically halfway between WPRO-FM and Lite. But we all know the pathetic state of the industry, and we all know how little Clear Channel has invested in its properties.

Damn, shame, although I think they weren't the best hot a/c musically since they became coast, still people lost their jobs.

Nothing on the website as far as a morning show. Normally I'd say either the PD or a weekender would do it but apparently there is no PD now and no weekenders. That place just about qualifies as a radio station in the first place. It's one step above a music service you'd hear in the background at Walgreen's. Why doesn't Clear Channel just sell it. It's like keeping an old car that runs poorly but you won't repair it and you won't get rid of it. If they keep the format I'd go with a syndicated morning show. So much for Clear Channel raising the bar.

They had someone capable of doing a real morning show in Tad Lemire. They didn't know what to do with the show, although I'm sure Tad knew what to do. They let him go? They should have thanked him for agreeing to work there. And what about the PD? What was he there? A year? Give someone a Bob The Builder playset & expect the Taj Majal in a year? He implemented changes, obviously with approval, & whether you like the format or not the job got done with very little to work with. Now more careers are interrupted for people who did what they could with what they had. Too many changes in the morning show over the years & it all began when they let David Jones go. Constant morning changes spell disaster. How sad is it that in an industry built on talent, the best talents are the first to go? Matty didn't work before when syndicated was tried. PRO-FM & LITE are going to divvy up their listeners. And don't even get me started on Seacrest. I actually caught him by accident on Kiss 108 last week & before I had a chance to swear at the radio he was blathering about which Slumdog Millionaire star was seen with who.

Matty in the Morning to be simulcasted. At least it's a real morning show.

Are you saying that as FACT or as a WISH? That's not a move that I would mind at all. Matty is great. He was syndicated into Providence once before. It didn't work out though. But I would welcome him with open arms again if they gave him a shot.

It's a fact & yes he's a Boston institution & deserves to be but in Providence he's a finger in the dyke. Now Coast shares 2 shows with KISS with Matty & Seacrest. Maybe 93.3's new moniker can be Little Kiss or Smooch or Peck. Maybe Pecker.

Let's hope Matty gets a little more global with his focus because if not, gonna be the same result as before (even w/o a little more NE focus to include the RI listener, the reach could prove to be too much)

I believe last time around Matty was on 106, which may explain the lack of success. 93.3 is more of a fit. Now with Matty and Seacrest it makes sense to flip to "Kiss 93.3 Providence".

I don't think 93.3 aims to be a powerhouse share grabber. Their goal seems to be to run low-budget; even before the layoffs of the past year.

You have the option of notifying the trades if you want to be included on any published list. Coast's downfall is a cumulative thing over the years. Musically I don't like the station but in the last year the music has become more focused if nothing else. No more 70's music. No sharing the same songs you hear on HJY and B101. Music alone doesn't bring in an audience. There are too many other places to get it. You need to establish loyalty to the station as something more than background noise and they haven't done that since the J&J days. Granted their numbers might have not been stellar but they were really all the station ever had.

Looking at the breakdown of which folks Clear Channel cut, none of them are from Providence.

Providence
Chris Duggan is looking for a new gig now that he's no longer programming hot AC WSNE (93.3 Coast FM) and classic hits WWBB (B101)/Providence

Also exiting Coast: morning guy Tad Lemire, who was at the station for two-and-a-half years and is a known quantity in the market, having spent 11 years across the street at WCTK (98.1 Cat Country).

So who programs Coast and B101 now? Do they just dish the duties out to the remaining two pds in the building? I can't see them hiring anyone.

I can see them hiring a new satellite dish soon to pick up all their new programming. ;)

Exactly, only 2 times slots now where they would need to program are mid days and overnights.

Gotta wonder if Matt Siegel is a temporary thing. He's not on the Coast website. It seemed to happen very fast and when you're dealing with a building with very few people left to fill in quickly, what else can you do but call on resources at another CC station? The whole chain of events at that station over the last couple of years is just such a fiasco.

It's all a shame. I do think Tad is a talent and have stated before has "Matty" potential. This is probably a blessing in disguise for him though, Coast is a joke of a station. Mind as well simulcast WXKS full time like WEEI on 103.7.

Providence radio is a joke now anyways. Even this board's activity is way down. Nothing to talk about. Depetro, Yorke are good. Shorts and Kevin, and even Palmieri should have mornings on HJY but complacency is tolerated. Just a matter of time for TC? Maybe the existence of 'JZS will technically allow the Providence board to live on for another year or 2.

Matty versus Gio, I like it.

They must have just added that info yesterday. I noticed other markets including Portland and Youngstown added to the page, as well...
