Goodbye George...Hello Jesus!

Rumor is soon to become reality as Bonneville spins 104.1FM to Radio One. The African-American Gospel flip/launch is expected to commence sometime tomorrow (Thursday, 3/22).

If I were Cathy Hughes et al., I'd have my eye on WFSI and make Family Radio an offer they couldn't refuse. Putting gospel on 107.9 would not only blanket the Baltimore and Washington markets well, it would serve a good portion of the Eastern Shore. Radio One could then consider selling 1340 in Washington and either 1010 or 1400 in Baltimore, keeping their talk format on the remaining AM. In turn, Family Radio might want to sell 750 in Baltimore. If they were to purchase 600 in Baltimore they might want to also sell 860 as well. In lieu of purchasing WCAO, they could purchase 104.1 and keep 860 or sell 860 and buy one of the 'unwanted' Radio One properties.

DCRTV is reporting that Radio One signed an LMA with Bonneville for 104.1 this morning. As of noon, 104.1 went dark. The 103.9 partner signal in Fredrick is now relaying WTOP-FM.

WGMS into a Gospel station, what a shocker!

On george104.com: "George Radio no longer broadcasting on 104.1 FM. We will soon be available only in High Definition, on 103.5-2, and HD side channel of WTOP radio." They are also giving away 103 HD radios to "celebrate" the move and to get whatever listeners George had to move to HD Radio. Wow, Washington's Good Music Station is going to into the FM home for Jesus. The radio industry just keeps getting weirder and weirder every year....

Name, Launch Date, Morning Show Update

DCRTV has updated their confirmation, and a name, launch date, and morning show have been revealed for the new Radio One FM Gospel Station. The station will be dubbed "Praise 104.1" and will launch on Easter Sunday. And, the nationally-syndicated "Yolanda Adams Morning Show" will begin airing in morning drive on April 12th. I would have thought of maybe "Praise 104" to shorten it or maybe "Jesus 104" for the name station feel. But "Praise 104.1" seems logical since it has the frequency in it. And Easter Sunday as the launch date seems very logical since it's a big christian holiday and it's SUNDAY of course. And yeah, He can show himself anywhere on the dial since He's "THE ultimate being." Even if He is the replacement for the longest running radio station, which will definitely tick some people off since SOME (non-african american christian/christian) people will think this will not be a good replacement for 'GMS, despite classical moving to 'ETA. And "Praise" will NOT go as long as 'GMS did, and that's a fact of radio life that will live forever, especially in these times of flipping stations without warning (CBS-FM [New York] anyone?). But, since DC is a large African-American market, this might be good. And since there is no good signaled Gospel station in DC, this could bring in big numbers (well, not Exponentially [HUGE] BIG, but big)

Did you hear Yolanda Adams will be their new morning host?

I'm suprised Jeff Majors didn't step up and just syndicate himself(he is Cathy's Boyfriend you know).

Haha. I was thinking the same thing but I am pretty sure he will be on the station somewhere. I do wonder what they are going to do with the AM gospel station...all hip hop and gogo or will they just sell it. I feel the later.
