Goodbye K-LUV, Hello The Spot (98.7)

KLUV revealed their new logo for "98.7 The Spot" on Facebook to look similar to 95.7 in Houston. Hope they're not getting rid of Jack FM.

Looks like a step up for EMF to reveal their "K-Love" move in for DFW, maybe?

"Positive and Encouraging K-Love" coming to a DFW frequency in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1............................................................
Can you say "deal", boys and girls?! ;)
Now where could that be? 100.3: here's looking at you, Jack! - edit: or 107.5 or 93.3.

Edit: after reading the well thought out Mediafrog+ post below, I have to readjust my thinking.
Lots on the table yet. Thanks for the refresher on the past information.

The Spot here in Houston has been a huge success, but the market lacks anything like KLUV.

Speculation had been that 98.7 would go with the “Big” branding, but I guess they will just duplicate what is being done in Houston.

This has to open to door for EMF to launch its K-Love format in DFW. The rumor earlier this year was that Audacy would sell the DFW branding rights for the K-Love name to EMF while rebranding and changing the call of 98.7. Jack-FM would be combined into the new 98.7 format with La Grande moving to 100.3. 107.5 would be sold to EMF for the new K-Love outlet.

However note the sale of Cumulus’ WDRQ in Detroit, which is rumored to be part of a multi market deal. KLIF-FM 93.3 might be the station winding up with EMF as their K-Love outlet.

Interesting times.

Curious to see if there will be playlist adjustments to make KLUV similar to its Houston counterpart.
Sampling the KLUV stream and yes, the playlist sounds the same as The Spot here in Houston.

Expect the KLUV call to be changed if EMF is indeed launching its own K-Love in DFW.

Keep an ear on 100.3 and 107.5…and/or possibly 93.3. More pieces likely to fall in place.

This was just posted on their Facebook 14 hours ago, complete with a reference to the no-longer-existent radio.com. Whoever is scheduling their social media posts must've missed the memo from 2021!

That would be surprising considering how sprawling DFW is and how long they have waited to enter the largest evangelical market in the country with K-Love only to settle for a C2.

True, usually EMF gets what they want since they have the dollars to spend.
As Mediafrog+ mentions, could be multiple frequencies/owners swapping spots, pun intended. :)

It's mostly 70s and 80s music so far (haven't seen a 90s through 2010s song like Jack FM plays). Not really an adult hits station like Houston's Spot, but more classic hits. I looked at the playlist for Houston's Spot and it looks more like what Jack FM is playing.

Last I checked, the KLUV song history on its website has not updated past 10:30 or so, so the last songs shown are presumably the last songs played before the rebrand/flip.

The Facebook post (taken from the original message in this thread) that shows the new logo/profile picture by Audacy on KLUV's page is time-stamped at 10:00 PM Central (Dallas) Time on Tuesday evening 6/13/2023.

As mentioned in the post by jt99 just previous to yours:

Or, simply, they are going to keep the Dallas format and re-use the Houston name since they likely have the rights to it. That way they can allow the "other" K-Love to enter the market.

Tweak 98.7 and get more listeners and sell the rights / calls to someone who might want them probably makes sense for Audacy at this point.

As mentioned in another thread, the classic hits station in Philadelphia "rebranded" with a new name and imaging but essentially the same format and music... and it seems to have helped their 25-54 by erasing any "too old" image that station may have had.

Audacy has lost their damn mind.. The Houston Spot is about the only thing in town but it sucks. It was a welcome change when it signed on but it's gotten stale. And I'm sorry but Grego should not be the only voice on the station. There are times I get tired of listening to his rambling... To give up the K-LUV call sign in Dallas is stupid. This adjustment is going to cost them numbers and listeners ... The Houston Spot literally has no competition. Dallas is a different market and what works in Houston does not work in Dallas.. I saw that problem whenever I was at Mix.. The Houston Mix was much better than the Dallas Mix.
