Goodbye MDA Telethon; Hello "Show of Strength"

Joseph_Gallant said:
... [CBS] usually carries seven hours (11 A.M.-6 P.M. EDT) coverage of the U.S. Open tennis tournament on Labor Day...

Yet some affiliates like WFSB/Hartford were steadfast in carrying the telethon and bumping tennis over to WTIC...

Well to be so frank, NBC's Houston Station KPRC has carried the MDA Telethon since its inception. And it makes me wonder if are there any other TV stations out there that carried it right from its beginning back in 1964? I believe through the years, while several TV stations changed hands when it comes to carrying The MDA Telethon, KPRC has always been stayed through thick and thin.

In this modern age, The telethon has lasted from 21 hours to last year's 6 to now just three for this year. A lot of acts who performed in Vegas hall since retired or moved on to better things; People who have donated some of their money, Well-they just don't feel like making their commitments anymore. And finally... There are so many other ways to make a donation, but making it online happens to be a safe, easy way.

Hence my use of the word were. :-X But thanks for the information for folks outside the area. ;)

In Alaska: KTUU/Anchorage is airing Show of Strength at 7:00, but not KTVF, meaning we in Fairbanks will have to catch it on --where else? -- WGN America live at 4:00.

Looking at the list, None of Fargo Stations are airing it
closest stations are Bismarck and Minot (KX network)
and Twin Cities (KSTC)

Well...I enjoyed this year's extravaganza, and it was great that after years of suffering through Tony Orlando, Charo, and Norm Crosby, they finally got some A-list talent for a change like Carrie Underwood, Brandy, Pitbull, and Carole King (as the closer). And at three hours tops (with about five minutes or so of local cut-ins), they sure tried to cram it all in with the right balance of performances and heart-touching stories that made the annual Labor Day tradition what it is.

WPHL-TV aired the broadcast at 8:36 PM last night, following the heartbreaking Phillies game.

They aired the show tonight in Los Angeles, not on KCAL (as they have for many, many years), but on KTLA. Interesting...

WPHL, WGN also owned by Tribune... Yet I believe WWOR cleared the new revamped MDA telethon in New York as they've done for many years - as opposed to the Tribune-owned WPIX/11...

Well Jerry Lewis might not be on the show anymore, but in keeping up with tradition, "AntenaTV" network ran old Jerry Lewis movies all day instead.

KTLA was the original local home of the Jerry Lewis Telethon; they carried it for more than 25 years until it moved to KCAL in '97.

I thought the broadcast was well done and the right length. The results will really be in the fundraising totals which have yet to be released.
