...hellow "NBC 10 News."

According to a post on TV Spy, WJAR will brand their newscasts as "NBC 10 News" effective tomorrow.

Hell Yeah!!!!! Awsome News. I never liked stations that branded themselves News stations or News Channels as if that's all they do. There is a lot more to a TV station then News. As a matter of fact News only represents a very small portion of the programming aired on the station. So I'm all for the New Branding! It's an NBC affiliate, It's owned by NBC and it only makes sense to call it NBC 10 News. Seems to be a good move to me. I'm also looking forward to the very likely possibility of a New Set and new Theme music as well!

I'm surprised WJAR didn't change their brand name years ago when WCAU in Philadelphia became "NBC 10 News" since both Channel 10...to match their sister station. If my memory serves me correctly, when NBC bought WCAU, they were called "News 10," then a short time later switched to "NBC 10 News."

I wonder if this latest move by WJAR is in response to WPRI's increased ratings. Maybe WJAR is feeling the heat. I don't know. All I can say is that I'm always excited when a station makes changes like this. I'm anxious to see how things look.

It sounds to me like NBC wants to further connect the news programming of WJAR to the NBC branding and product, and build brand identity for the "NBC 10" name. It's sort of like what happened at WBZ/CBS4 in Boston, although that has since been a total disaster.

Why not? NBC O&O WVIT-TV/DT channel 30/D 35 of New Britain/Hartford has "NBC 30" as their station moniker topped by "NBC 30-Connecticut News" for all of their newscasts (5 AM for 2 hours, 10 AM for one hour, 5 PM, 5:30 PM, 6 PM and 11 PM).
