Goodbye Nine Time News

I don't know what kind of numbers Nine Time News (KTVK @ 9pm) has been drawing but it looks like the end is near. On Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona, host Tara Hitchcock mentioned that Oprah, currently seen at 3pm would also have an encore broadcast at 9pm starting sometime in the near future.

Wonder what happens to The Newsroom at 8pm. Does it stay or do we get back to back episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond?

A lot of that has to be tied to the departure of Mike Chamberlin. Belo couldn't possibly justify spending the money to hire someone to anchor The Newsroom, and while to many of us there's no such thing as too much Beverly Kidd, the simple truth is she is on the air way too much.

Move the NewsShow back to an hour. Novel idea by Channel 3, but it just hasn't worked.

KTVK should have given the 9pm newscast another chance, since FOX is looking to turn its O&O stations into local Fox News Channel clones, which will alienate a few viewers. Maybe AZ-TV should partner up with Channel 5 once again and have them produce a 9pm newscast, but that may not be economically feasible.

This would be the most likely scenario, given that Fraiser has been demoted to late nights on Channel 61 until the end of the year, when AZ-TV picks it up.
