The Voice of Campbell University falls silent on May 31.
After 32 years of broadcasting, WCCE-FM 90.1 is leaving the air.
Leon Tart, owner of WPYB-AM in Benson, speculated the university might sell the FM frequency, which he called a valuable commodity.
However, university officials will only say the decision was made "after thorough review and study."
"We believe it's in the best interest of the university to suspend operations," Vice President for Marketing and Planning John Roberson said. "Decisions of this magnitude are always difficult. The university is carefully evaluating other technologies to send its messages and sports broadcasts to the campus and larger community."
