Goodbye WCCE "The Voice of Campbell University"

(from The Daily Record in Dunn, NC)

Campbell Radio Station Closing

Steve Reed
Reporter

The Voice of Campbell University falls silent on May 31.

After 32 years of broadcasting, WCCE-FM 90.1 is leaving the air.

Leon Tart, owner of WPYB-AM in Benson, speculated the university might sell the FM frequency, which he called a valuable commodity.

However, university officials will only say the decision was made "after thorough review and study."

"We believe it's in the best interest of the university to suspend operations," Vice President for Marketing and Planning John Roberson said. "Decisions of this magnitude are always difficult. The university is carefully evaluating other technologies to send its messages and sports broadcasts to the campus and larger community."

Surely EMF, WAY-FM (CHRSN), or Lift FM will come in and buy this station? My guess is that it would be better for the school to deal with WAY or Lift, because EMF will likely want to place a format 24/7, whereas I could see the other two groups allowing some local programming to remain.

definantly. I can even imagine them working something out to where the new station carries Camel sports from time to time
