Sometime today, May 1st, WKNO's analog signal on channel 10 shuts down. This will be the first Memphis VHF station to head to the TV graveyard.
Eventually, the channel 10 allocation may be occupied by a lower-powered Memphis DTV. You'll recall WKNO's parent company was awarded a CP for analog 56/DTV 10, and had planned to build out the DTV only after analog shutdown. A high-ranking official with the station tells me he is unsure when or if that will happen.
I'll be happy, for at least some time, to be without a local on 10. There are a handful of new DTVs in the region I would like a shot at getting -- Nashville, Starkville, and soon, Birmingham.
