Bob Kelly CBS3
August 29
It truly is with a very heavy heart I announce that today will be my last broadcast on CBS3. For 13 years I have always looked forward to coming in to work and having the opportunity to be a part of a show and a work "family" that has given me more laughter, more love, and more rewarding moments than could fill a lifetime. To YOU the unbelievable, faithful viewers!! I cannot express my gratitude for the support and constant love and kindness shown towards myself and my family all these years!!! Endless thank you's to each and everyone of you. To you my most awesome morning team, co-workers past and present!! Although not on the TV screen, we will continue to have fun and may the endless laughter live on!!! And to my family, your unwavering support and love is what will make this next part of the adventure the best we've had yet!! Hope to see you all again soon, thank you so very much for allowing me to be in your home these past 13 years. With all my love.

Jammo Bob Kelly

This really belongs on the TV board:

So, was he fired or what?

I shed no tears. He was arrogant and difficult to work with.

Now, they should fire the pompous, puffed-up Chris May and the plastic Barbie he works with. The whole bunch at CBS3 has done the impossible: They make Scary Larry and Alycia seem like a golden age of TV news by comparison. Still it's not as bad as when local management got a court order forcing the TelePrompTer readers to work.

Aw come on Fred- I have many a memory listening to Kelly in the mornings years back during snowstorms hearing his traffic reports. Fred, did you work with him personally?

Juls may not like it, but WPHT wants Bob Kelly

CBS3 TRAFFIC reporter Bob Kelly has left CBS3 after 13 years at the station.

In an email to me, Kelly made it clear this was not an expected departure.

"It's been an emotional couple of days for sure. I truly expected to finish out my career at CBS, and the incredible outpouring of countless messages and phone calls has reminded me how much I really love doing what I get to do, and in the city I grew up in," Kelly told me in an email, adding that he was blown away by the support he received on Facebook.

He continued: "I'm not sure of the next step in the journey yet. But for now, I'm very much looking forward to sleeping in past 2:30 a.m. and waking up with my family. TV is in my blood and I love it with a passion. I look forward to the moment I can help the viewers navigate the roads once again."

Talk Radio 1210 WPHT's Chris Stigall, who worked with Kelly on his morning show, told me that his management team has made it clear to Kelly that he would like to continue working with him.

Another source thinks he'll likely wind up on another Philadelphia station that just lost its traffic reporter to Cupid:

Kelly departs Ch. 3

Bob Kelly just seemed to disappear from Channel 3.

One day, he is jovially, and thoroughly, giving traffic reports to morning viewers, the next he is searching for a new outlet, a new adventure in life. It seems absurd that Kelly and Channel 3 could not reach some kind of working agreement to keep him on the air.

Kelly was a staple of the morning newscast, a reason for choosing to watch Channel 3. Besides his gregarious personality and aggressively friendly style, Kelly was the most complete traffic reporter. He knew alternative routes in his head. He covered transit more completely and more congenially than any other traffic anchor. Heck, he invented traffic reporting in this market. Before Kelly, you had dry cut-ins to general traffic centers that presented information with the animation of a stuffed pigeon.

Kelly revolutionized traffic news by making it fun, providing salient information such as how to get around “jammos,” and talking about different routes. The man knew his roads, and he knew his people. The public loved it when Kelly came to cover an event or mingle with a crowd. He has the common touch.

No one is able to tell the whole story about Kelly’s Channel 3 exit because Kelly has been in social-media retreat, except as a recipient. The loudest rumors are he will land at Channel 29, where Kacie McDonnell just vacated the traffic spot for a job in Kansas City where she can be near her fiance, Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Aaron Murray.

most radio & TV stations don't want people over age 55 on the air.
and don't want to pay them.

That would be awesome!

If Bob Kelly went to channel 29 with Sue Serio that would be awesome!
