Google Exits Radio Automation

I bet Dave Scott "Scott Studios" is still laughing all the way to the bank.Looks like those Google broadcasters are not feeling too google_ley right not.Can you say "NEXGEN"

Best of luck to the 40 or so people who may not find re-assignment within Google.
:(

Wonder who will by the Google SS32 product. I'd imagine it would be another automation maker, meaning one fewer automation choices.

I find it ironic, however, that there is a Google Radio advertisement on this site.

It's interesting Google is exiting, I know they had a big push recently to trade their automation system to broadcasters in favor of unfilled spot blocks on radio stations... Guess with the weaker advertising business they have decided to go in another direction.

Maybe RCS might grab it.RCS,NEXGEN,SS32. That would pretty well dominate the market.Few times i've messed with SS32,some of the support folks had an "attitude".One of the reasons i went with Nexgen."They killed me with kindness"

So they're seeing the writing on the wall and cutting their losses. You can't sell high end automation when no one is buying. CAPEX? Not this year. Or next. Or next. Or next. Or next. And so it goes. It's a good time to be in the pour concrete business I guess.

I don't think Google gave broadcasters enough reason to upgrade to the new Google SS32 version from the last Scott Studios version. It looked cool, but beyond being aesthetically pleasing I don't think there was a lot of justification in it. Sure would be nice to get my hands on some of that sweet server equipment they had with the new v.6 client, though.

Whit, you talking about those green servers? Very nice.In defense of Google, they are pretty darn smart.Internet ads and with nationwide broadband,INTERNET RADIO IN CARS,ON PHONES,ETC.Now there's a novel idea.WATCH OUT land based FM'S,your days may be numbered.Think outside the box, that's where new visions come from.IMHO

ps.notice when you click on some videos, you are FORCED to watch that ad? HUM.......

I wish the Googlers the best. There are a couple outstanding support people that work for them. SS32 just worked. I didn't really see the need for the upgrade. Our SS32 has been running pretty much non-stop for 5 years...and continues to tick on unabated. Perhaps Dave Scott could take it back over.

I have a client with two SS-32's that have been running for 9 years. The OS is windows-98. Knock on wood, they just run and run. I decided to buy the machines with SCSI drives and AS cards.Back then uncompressed was not common. The system still sounds great to this day. Commercials and other junk is compressed, but not the music.

Not bad. I have a guy with an AudioVault version 1.x running on Windows 3.11 and other than the typical Windows freeze-ups it cranks along just fine!
