It's interesting that Jay Severino shortened his air name to 'Severin'; if you go to Google and type 'severin' and 'sex toys', you get 70,000 hits.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen on here.

Look at it this way: It is his act, he has you talking about it, and as for her embarassment? I bet living in that mansion in Manchester by the sea helps take the sting out of it. His act is his act, it's afforded him a lavish lifestyle. You can't really fault him that.

Of course they're going to fault him for that. They have none of those things.

So, what you're saying is that because he has made a lot of money portraying a misogynist that we should admire him?

kjlassoc - some individuals think ratings - no matter how you get them - a Metco scandal or calling Matt Big Dig a name - is something to applaud IF you get ratings and IF you don't get fired.

Of course IF you get ratings you won't get fired - Dennis & Callahan, Mike Savage (OK< moved around maybe) still kept their gigs; John DePetro did not.

There's no sense of professionalism, decency, decorum on the conglomerate stations. That's usually out the window unless the station is privately owned. Usually being the key word.

If people are secure enough to let people know who they are when posting, their criticism or commentary is more valid.

Note that those two individuals that you responded to refuse to say who they are, and make comments
about topics as if they are the final word. The great thing about this board is that we have many voices
that interact. Look at the Bickelhaupt topic. I happen to like Clea Simon, but I agree that Susan Bickelhaupt
does a better job on the radio commentary. Someone else pointed that out - when the door was certainly opened, I just didn't want to be the first one to tell Clea to go back to writing her books (I'll do that here).

But the WBCN discussion was a good one - even though it is territory touched upon before - because
Bickelhaupt put it in the Globe and Bickelhaupt WAS the Globe radio columnist who actually WORKS at the
newspaper. Clea does seem to take every press release and re-type it. The person at the Herald who replaced Dean Johnson is pretty good - though Johnson would stick it to someone who needed a slap -
Oedipus for example - if he could. Oedi would then demand a puff piece, but the word was already out.
Clea would never ruffle Oedi's feathers - so don't expect her to investigate why a Clear Channel person got fired or why a news staff at WRKO got axed. Just expect to read what you read here first in The Globe these days. Thanks to Susan Bickelhaupt for putting her pen back into Radio.

Now back to the topic at hand:
Severin's ratings are like blood money. He can't do it legitimately the way Don Imus or even Howard Stern can. Stern might be sexist, he might taunt and bait, but whose opinion on the war would you take? Stern's or Jay Severin's? Severin will take ANY position at ANY time for ANY amount of cash. Stern has some kind
of moral code, twisted as it may seem. If Stern doesn't have boundaries he at least holds his convictions close. Severin has no convictions. I.M.H.O. Of course you are free to disagree with me - that's the alleged beauty of this which irks some of the shadows who post just to put people's opinions down.

I don't think anyone is saying we need to admire anyone...but it wouldn't hurt to throw some respect around. The man has fans, and a lot of them, he puts on an entertaining show, and gets paid a ton of money to do it...its hard to do that in this biz....so i respect that.

Would that be the same respect he shows his wife? According to him, he live with a Newfoundland Hound. ::)

Possibly just trying to protect his family's privacy.

I can't see what other reason he'd have for the Hound references. ??? His wife is either an angel, or she doesn't know how to tune in 96.9 FM, or she's remained at the family compound in New York and doesn't hear it.

This is quite disrespectful to doggies. I've seen dogs and I've seen Jay Severin. Dogs are cute. Severin is scary. That haircut! Any normal person would sue the barber, except that Severin probably DESIGNED it!

I wouldn't call that stretching at all...he does infact have a dog, but he doesn't mention his family on the air. News flash...LOTS OF ON AIR DJ'S DON"T MENTION THEIR WIVES! what a concept!!! Creating a radio show inwich you know people are going to get frustrated with your ideas and making sure you never mention your family for protection...BRILLIANT!

Hmmmm, protecting his family. Maybe.

But then, why the strange and out of the blue Asian women reference Lucylu wrote about and I heard last night on replay? A caller said Severin was going to like what he had to say and Severin asked if he was going to say something about Asian women. This was a complete nonsequitor and took the caller by surprise. Severin repeated that if the caller was going to say something about Asian women then he would definitely like what he had to say. The caller then said what he was calling about, which of course had nothing to do with Asian women. It was kind of a strange exchange.

I think Severin had been caught off guard by the previous caller who called him on a factual error. To his credit, Severin acknowledged the error and thanked the caller for bringing it to his attention. Very big of him, but then in the next breath he's making a weird reference to Asian women, which sounds like a houn' dog assertion of his 'manliness' (and NOT like he even had a family, let alone was protecting it - unless his wife is Asian of course).

I usually figure that guys who are so assertive about their 'manliness' in public like to be spanked at home. Of course, I might be wrong.... I'm sure Jay Severin never wants to be spanked.

But Jimmy Severino? ......

That would be a brilliant plan if said "DJ" wasn't skeevey, sadly trying to pick up every female caller and very vocal about his designs for young Asian woman (traditional a very submissive female, interesting that they should be his flavor of choice).

I have a theory, mind you, it is just an educated guess: once, early in his career, Jay actually hooked up with a listener (maybe even more than once). It made him feel like a rock star and even though he married (and yet has no children, so his marrage should also be a sham in the eyes of you anti-gay marrage folk), he still wants to keep that door open just in case some other listener is fool enough to sleep with him. "I'm protecting you from the listeners" is just the kind of crap that someone like that would hand their wife as they keep them in the dark.

Charles Laquidara, a much bigger media figure than Jay could hope to be, was very public with his wife and children and they seemed to have escaped unharmed.

I really think it's a matter of personal choice.
Howard Stern, for example, was very public with his marriage, his wife's miscarriage, his divorce and new love life.
Other personalities don't tell you squat about their home lives.
This is Severino's schtick, and he'll live or die with it.
Interesting theory, though. Perhaps a person goes this far to create a sex-symbol image trying to hide other, less accepted attractions? Just a thought ;D
