Google Trends

Have you noticed how the HD haters here don't mention Google Trends any more? I was curious why. Perhaps you should check for yourself. Go to http://www.google.com/trends and type "HD Radio" in the subject line.

It shows a pretty sharp trajectory upward. "But people Google Ipods more"...they'll whine. News flash: Google Trends is about TRENDS. The TREND for HD Radio is clearly up.

Still it means nothing. Life is what happens OFFLINE!

Make that "hater." Singular. I also notice that he's been rather quiet over the past few days.

Possibly banned again? *crosses fingers* ;D

If you'd been more active on these boards you would have noted PocketRadio was going on vacation... good thing for him as he'll come back rested and ready for you guys.

HD Radio = 15 years to late
HD Radio = NON-EXISTANT to consumers

HD Radio

More stations
More multicasts
More markets
More new formats
More manufacturers (including the biggest ones)
More products
More retailers (including the biggest ones)
More promotion dollars
More LISTENERS...nearly a half-million per week according to the oft-cited (by the nay-sayers) Bridge Ratings

HD Detractors

More hot air
More links to meaningless posts...most of them blogs, or irrelevant opinion from the uninformed
More desperation

You forgot the most important:

NO LISTENERS!

Re-read, Dude. A HALF-MILLION listeners according to Bridge Ratings. Kind of flies in the face of "nobody's buying the radios", "only a few thousand radios sold, and most of those returned", etc. If there are a half-million listeners, and only a few thousand radios...those are some pretty damn busy radios!

Aren't we talking about HD radio and not ANALOG?

Sure I'll bite there MIGHT be 250 million listening to radio RIGHT NOW ( if anyone believes that) but out of that 250 million I'd say 1000 or less are listeining to an actuall HD signal or 'locked' onto an HD signal or broadcast.

One thousand HD radios spread across the U.S. listening all at one time is useless statistics if any!

"You would say". Well "I would say" that pigs can fly. Disprove it!

RESEARCH by "Bridge Ratings", which you guys have quoted to often shows nearly a half-million HD listeners per week NOW! Research. REAL STATISTICS, vs. what "you would say". Ya' know how much weight "you would say" carries around here? About as much as link to an unrelated post on somebody's blog!

I call BS on a half a million HD listeners per week. Absolutely no way. Common sense dictates otherwise. I don't have anything to disprove the number but that number just screams "no way."

And what do you base this on? Is it because you can't imagine that there are so many HD radios in the field or do you refuse to believe it? From a business perspective companies wouldn't be adding HD radio to their equipment line if they weren't selling, and these same companies didn't believe they could make money from sales of HD radios, whether you choose to believe it or not.

Exactly, RF. What I base it on is the almighty "Bridge Ratings" that you guys are so quick to tout when they have ANYTHING negative to say about HD. It is THEIR FINDINGS that point to between 400,000 and a half-million HD listeners. If you dispute that, you're disputing the same source of so many of the "facts" you try to rub in the faces of those who believe in the success of this new technology.

Some use the AM Stereo analogy. SILLY! There are already more HD stations and products than ever existed for AM Stereo.

Radio listeners are told "now broadcasting in HD" and believe they are now hearing HD on their analog radios, and respond to the survey saying they are "listening to HD radio" even when they are not.
Why? Because their radio (falsely) told them so.

And for those of us old enough to remember NBC used to open some of their prime time broadcasts with, "The following program is brought to you in living color". I used to watch my back & white set and y'know, I couldn't tell the difference. Maybe i needed a new set.

Why is it that when people say they are "listening in HD" it's unrealistic to take them at their word, but when they say they're not, or (more likely) don't mention it specifically, you are only too willing to take them at their word.

Anyhow, if Bridge Ratings methodology really is that poor...that they can't verify the existance of HD radios in these people's homes (which could be done with a question as simple as "which model of HD radio do you use), then PLEASE don't EVER bore us with Bridge Ratings data again. They're either credible, or they're not. I will give them credit for understanding the technology enough to verify that the people have access to radios. Besides, if they were measuring people who are listening to HD stations, but not in HD, the number would certainly be in tens of millions, perhaps more than 100 million...because these are the largest, most listened-to stations.

Or maybe you are just color blind. ::)

I couldn't wait to get a color set. In fact, the color was more accurate on those early color sets than a lot of the later ones, because in order to get brighter images, set manufacturers later went with a non-standard red. For many years, color tvs couldn't produce a real red...the color of the Kodak logo on the film boxes, or the color of cherry Jello. Red always had an orange hue.

As a matter of fact I am. However, unlike you I don't also wear blinders.
