Gordon Edes on NESN's Sox games

Gordon Edes is playing the part of Don Orsillo's Sox analyst this weekend. Can this guy SHUT UP for a minute???? He talks and he talks and he talks and he talks and he talks and he talks some more. I'm amazed Orsillo can get his play by play in.

I'm sure that he's perfect for some people with all his little nuggets of information from around MLB but give it a rest once in a while. Ya gotta know when to come up for air and take a break. You don't HAVE to talk constantly. Jerry Remy certainly doesn't when he's there and the fill-ins know when to breathe as well.

I had to vent after screaming at the tv. Thank you. ;D

And how many times can he say "Don?"
Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,Don,..........................

If I had a sip of beer for every time is said Don, I would have gone through a 12 pack by the 4th inning.

to make it a radio topic, will Gordo have any involvement with BZ-FM?

also... def. off-topic but has anyone given a hint about what's going on with Remy? I get the feeling that since it's more than halfway through the season, it's probably serious.

There was an article in the Worcester Telegram earlier this week. There has been no talk of Remy's return and NESN hasn't said anything about it, preferring instead to protect Jerry's privacy.

After coming back in late April and then leaving again, he had surgery again in May on his lung to remove a cancerous area.

My feeling is that Jerry won't be back at all this season unless the Sox make the playoffs and/or the World Series and, even then, it would be parttime at best.

Here's that article from Bill Doyle (who, by the way, has a full head of air on his online pic but is pretty bald on his pic in the actual newspaper ;D ) :

And, by the way, I only JUST realized I should have put this on the Boston/New England tv board, rather than the radio board. Whoopsie. ;D Board Editor 1, 2, 3, or 4 may move it if they so desire. :D

While I like Remy as a color guy, I really haven't missed the constant self promotion of everything Remy (scorecards, websites, Remywear, on and on).

In most cases, it's refreshing that the subs stick to baseball without the sales pitches though it is interesting to see the variety of styles form Eck (very good) to Roberts ( very mediocre). Actually, other then Eck I can't think of anyone else who I really enjoyed.

I enjoy Eck as well although I haven't heard him in several weeks (although I've been away on business the last several weeks0.

I enjoyed Buck Martinez who joined Don for games against the Tampa Bay Rays in late April/early May.

I enjoyed Jim Katt a few days ago for games against...Toronto??

You are right. Dave Roberts is mediocre at best. Too much forced laughing, way too many "You know"s, and way too much dead air while he's speaking. He talks before he speaks. He needs to complete his thoughts in his head before verbalizing them.

Meanwhile, today, early in the top of the first inning, Gordon Edes has already talked more than Don. :D

I miss Remy, and millions of other viewers do, too. The Edes thing has been a disaster. All the observations have been sound ones, and it basically puts credence to every negative stereotype you can come up with to describe newspaper sports hacks. They generally are an insufferable lot, rankling people by the mere words they write...never mind adding a face and a voice to that nausea.

The only newspaper sports hack who I find tolerable is Bob Ryan, mostly because he is knowledgeable...not just opinionated.
