Just something fun...who do you think are the top ten talents in the market and why? Screw ratings...your personal opinion on the top ten and why. ...should be interesting :)

Kevin Calabro as the voice of the Sonics is a world class talent.

And while the Mariners' Dave Niehaus may have lost a step as time takes its toll, he is still amongst the very best at what he does.

Lazlo, Afentra and Slimfast... Each alone is nothing big.. Together they are great.

On_Radio, good thing 7399radiofun said "screw ratings" because your favorite show or the one you actually work for has none.

Crow & Slaton both great radio talents in fact very much unsung talents, I don't know why that is because they have done some great work over the years in this town.

    ? No Talent?

Sports guys and shows on the END? I guess ratings aren't a factor for the boys on this board. You are all kidding right? Top talent in Seattle: S. Hart on KUBE, Eric Powers KUBE, Monti: MOVIN. For the older crowd Delilah on WARM. These shows have unique appeal and actually do have some ya ya ratings too.

OK, MAMMA, now I've had a LOT of patience with your incessant MOViN' lovin', Monti praisin' ramblings. But to say that Monti is among top talent in Seattle TAKES THE CAKE. I do listen a fair bit to MOViN'... my kids like the upbeat sound and I do admit to enjoying hearing some of those songs from my younger years myself now & again. But Monti's stilted delivery is all but unlistenable and she has NEVER YET had anything interesting nor entertaining to say. She fits the station well for the backfill announcer approach that they are clearly taking, but she is anything BUT "top talent in Seattle." Sorry. And while I've got my rant-and-rave-hat on, the morning guy over there is an embarassment too.

Real Talent: I listen only sparingly but grudgingly admit that Bob Rivers & his crew are true talent in this town. I do concur that Delilah is indeed a fabulous talent too although, again, I seldom listen. Mary White of the Wolf is true shining talent. (Fitz's petty insecurities come right through... he drives me crazy.) The Men's Room fellows on KISW have surprised me- they are really quite good.

Sadly Seattle's best talent is not on air right now: Pat Cashman, Robin & Maynard, Kennedy, Mike West...

The last time I was in Seattle I gave a few shows a listen..

Jolene is an EXCELLENT communicator. Great Interviewer.

Ricker.. Although sounds BAKED - Communicates well with his audience. Who are VERY LOYAL

KUBE - In a nutshell, cookie cutter 101. Same with KBKS. Not entirely impressed, although I did like Keola's presence on the air. He could make a remote @ Dick's sound like FUN!! I didn't catch the TMan show.

Delilah is a great communicator, but too mellow for me..

Kent and Alan -A Seatown STAPLE for the Bellevue crowd- I grew up at 144th and Pacific Hwy.. [ International Blvd ].. Don't get me started on the Eastside..

Langan is surely missed by some of you?

One of the smoothest females in the market is Stacy Ireland. Love her.. and Connie Cole..

Dale Roberts .. AWESOME talent.

What about Seattle's Youngest DJ? Who can name who went by that years ago? Now there is a guy with TALENT.

Kudos to the whole on-air team at KZOK, best and deepest bench in town. A pleasure hearing Vanderpool, Slaton with Nate, Crowski, the whole gang.

Kevin O'Brien on KJR circa 1973?

KISW in the '80s (pre-KXRX split) used to promote Beau Roberts as "Seattle's Youngest DJ" even though he sounded like he'd been sucking down a couple of packs a day for 10+ years. I'm not sure how old he really was at the time but my guess is that it was some sort of inside joke.

OK, OK...wait a minute. I keep hearing that where-every I go and I must say that people need to get out more often. If you haven't heard the other voices in other markets, you're going to obviously say that your local PBP voice is the best in the world. I think that KC is HIGHLY over-rated. Niehaus is OK. But I've lived in worked in other major markets and you have to broaden your horizon before you automatically say they're the "best." People fall into this trap because they haven't heard anyone else.

You sir are correct.. You win ... a pencil.. Thanks for playing..

Been trying to think about this one...and I have to throw out anyone on a "team" (no offense intended) because I have always thought the most talented stand-alones get my respect the most because of what they can deliver without being in a situation where back/forth spurs them into response/delivery.

The ones that come to mind as making me go out of my way to listen include...
Dancin' Danny Wright: Always knew how to deliver whatever he was delivering so it went with the song he was delivering it with...tempo was always perfectly delivered [KJR-AM, later KNBQ]
Charlie Brown: Stand-alone KJR days ... one of best morning folks ever ... ditto for Lan Roberts. [KJR-AM]
Pat Cashman and Phil Harper: (never together just lump them together because) they clearly are very very smart. Pat more a master at show prep ... Phil just plain brilliant at pulling humor out of thin air. [Pat = several, Phil = KING then KMPS and eventually KYCW]
Aaaaannnnnndddyyyy Barber was this market's answer to WLS Boogie Check/John Records Landecker as far as keeping teens engaged in evenings (vs Dancing Danny who had more appeal than just teens) [KING]
Slim one of best CHR female talents, though not known for humor as much as precise delivery [KNBQ later KPLZ after Chicago, LA, and KFRC]; same can be said for Gary Lockwood when he was PM drive @ KJR.
Norm Gregory, in his KZOK (AOR) days always made that format jump to life for me. He dumped that whole "stoner" sounding approach to the AOR presentation and made it sound credible, while still being anti-Top 40.

We've had a BUNCH of great-relating talent over the years (KOMO and KVI in their MOR days, KIRO doing long-form interviews, etc.) --- nearly everyone in the market doing middays today is good at what they do... and certainly some great morning teams in Rivers, KA, Charlie & Ty, Anyone & West, Robin & Maynard, etc. But people above stand out in my mind for being great JOCKS...taking show content and stacking it on top of records and making it all blend while they are only chef in the kitchen.

Sorry the references are so dated...but while I tried very hard to think of people in recent years, I don't think of people who have gone beyond the "great communicating companions" mantle. Luckily we have plenty of those....biggest problem is most formats today don't allow people to extend their wings -- and that could be because listeners don't want it, and it unfortunately stands as a "dead" art form now.

Monti one of Seattle's best radio talent?! Please. "There's an accident on the ramp to I-90 from 405, don't take that ramp darlin', not a good idea. You'll get caught in a big back up, stay away from it sweetie."

So I give her credit for doing her own traffic, and trying to be different... but come on.

She might be a great stand up comedian, but definitely not one of Seattle's best air talent.
