Latest book is out, and I have to finally say it. WSHH has done a good job over the last few years establishing itself as the top AC in Pittsburgh. Its probably time for WLTJ, and certainly STAR to think about format flips. But to what?

But congrats again to Ron Antill and everyone at WSHH, and at WJAS for doing some good independent radio in the Burgh!
 
I'm still surprised that WLTJ didn't flip to B93 WBZB-FM when they had the chance... Too late now.

Star seems to be steady in the ratings, but still quite low compared to a year ago. It's time for a change now that B94 is back. They should go all 80s and 90s and expand upon their playlist. There's lots of artists from those decades that get ignored by the station.
 
I think once CBS is satisfied with the B, they'll concentrate on Star.

WSHH and WLTJ have been running neck and neck in the Arbitrons for years. The rat race between Tony and Saul is not going to let up anytime soon. They do what they do very well.
 
One thing about WSHH is the jocks there are very, very good.

You couldn't ask for better voices or professionals than Antill, Sara Lockard, Dan Dunlap, and Cris Winter.

Can't stand the music they play, but love the people!

Amen to that Pratte. The DJ's are excellent on wish. Sometimes I like the music if I'm in the mood:).
 
WISH music vs WLTJ? I think WLTJ wins on that one. No repeats.

The only djs on WISH who are good are Sara and Dan. The others you mentioned are boring and just like to hear their own voices, especially their latest hire. I agree with you on wishing that these two get to put more personality into their shows. Met Dan a while back and he's a good guy.

Depends on the book. One will overtake the other in one, then the other comes from behind. That's nothing new. WSHH has come out ahead in many instances, but LTJ has been able to replicate the same success. If WSHH is strong now, LTJ will come back strong enough to either overtake them or make that margin considerably smaller.
 
12+ WSHH always wins, but in target demos, particularly 35-54 women LTJ gives them a run for their money and sometimes beats them.

WSHH's demos are always older, dating back to their days as an EZ listening format.
 
That no repeat thing must be a good thing. I heard that Star is going to start doing that as well.

As for WSHH - how much of an affect do you think their "What's Playing Now" Billboards have in their battle with WLTJ.

The "no repeat" thing is only for 9-5, isn't it? If so...songs DEFINITELY get repeated outside of that!

Re the billboards, I have to channel Beavis and say "heh heh, those are cool because they can warn me if a song sucks and I can know if they're playing something cool, like Gwar."

And you can play all the same songs every day between 9 and five, but you only play them once. And since it's an 8-hour rotation, you play everything 3 times a day.

Renda tried the "No Repeat 9 to 5" at their station in Punxy, but after they got a new PD in 2005, they trashed that slogan and deepened their music library. They were still pretty much no repeats, but Jim DeCesare felt the slogan was more of a detriment than an asset because of the market's makeup.
 
WPXZ is the worst its ever sounded. "Todays Hit Music" is the wrong format it that little town.

Just returned from a week at home, and Pittsburgh radio is not very good. Wasn't too impressed with anyone. But WSHH, WJAS, sounded good and on target.

Do you mean recently, TAE? "Today's Hit Music" hasn't been used since 2005, unless they resurrected it. I don't live in that area anymore and the signal doesn't make it here to Butler.

And I didn't know the music either. On air talent sounded like high school kids. And they sounded like robots.

I'll have to listen next week, since I'll be in the area. The on-air people you speak of, those two you likely heard are part-timers. One is filling in while they're searching for a new PD, and the other regularly does the evening shift.

Since I had been there (2005-06), the PD they hired shifted the music core to more upbeat 80's music, which seemed to work pretty well, as it generated a lot of positive response and we were on in a lot of offices again. Prior to that, it took on more of a Top 40 presentation, which lasted about a year (2004-05), and it was a "baby WSHH" for years prior to that.
