Governor Paterson May Get Talk Show

I'm hearing Paterson is nailing down a deal to a mid morning show. He would work with news anchor Noem Laden from WABC - a fast newsy and opinion show. NOt sure which station it would air on...but Noem is at WABC

It's quite interesting, considering how Paterson recently filled in for a couple of days on WOR's morning show for John Gambling. And, of course, there was the day he practically co-hosted with Mike Francesa on WFAN during the waning days of his term as Governor.

It's no secret that radio is officially in Paterson's blood. Where he will ultimately end up with a regular radio show is anyone's guess. Being paired with Noam Layden? That in itself is interesting, considering he's currently employed by WABC - but he himself has hosting experience in South Carolina; even subbed for Mark Simone not too long ago.

Having had him several times as a guest on my show in Rochester, I can tell you David Paterson is a sharp, articulate, witty guy, comes across very strongly on the air in a live situation. He was an excellent guest.

Of course, being a host, relating to guests and callers and and bringing the best out of them, is a whole different proposition. We all know great guests who couldn't make it happen as hosts (remember David Lee Roth? Mario Cuomo?).

Paterson may be different because he's getting the experience carrying a show as a guest host that many of the other strong guests who tried to make the jump to host never got. He's working into it gradually and that will serve him well.

This may shed some new light on the original poster's rumor:

Yesterday, I heard a promo on WOR saying something along the lines of, "You voted, and the results are in... David Paterson will be filling in once again for John Gambling this Monday and Tuesday on WOR."

I think it's clear now that WOR is giving Paterson trial runs for a regular show. And that WOR, if the original post is true, is trying to pry Noam Layden away from WABC.

The question is, where are they going to put him? Is Mike Gallagher a short-term place holder? I don't think he'll replace Joan Hamburg, who makes a lot of money for WOR... could he?

This is one of those rumors I really worry about. Is there even a grain of truth in what was originaly posted? Do the partisipants even have a hint about it?

Noam Laden has been the WABC morning news guy for Mark Simone on Saturdays and "Religion on the Line" on Sundays. Is Noam moving down the dial why we've heard Mitch Lebe on weekends?

Heard at the conclusion of WOR"s morning show today by John Gambling:

"I"m getting a little worried about Gov. Paterson... He's been looking at office space this week - I think he's been looking at mine..."

Paterson is sitting in for Joan right now. Unfortunately, his wife Michele (who's voice is DEFINITELY NOT radio material) is chiming in.

Get that woman away from the mic, Dave!!!! :p

Boy, is the former Governor itching to get into local radio. WFAN is giving him a tryout this Monday night starting at 10 PM. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time David appeared on WFAN.
