Grading Wellington and 104.1 FM

We know that Wellington was given a radio station that had lost its sizzle years before and needed new blood much earlier. That being said, when the programming is stale and a key station like WBCN is in trouble, isn't a wonder boy (or wonder girl) needed to pull it out of the funk created by those who went before?

How do we grade Dave Wellington?

---status quo

---better than average

---below average

With all the time that has elapsed since he took over - and we'll cut him some slack for being force fed
David Lee Roth - does Dave have what it takes to turn WBCN around or should someone else come in and
get the chance?

Would Laquidara like to be P.D.? (granted he was younger when they made him an offer he couldn't refuse to leave his alleged movie career)

John Sebastian?

The dude from Talkers Magazine that ran WZLX for awhile? - Mike Harrison?

John Shomby, formerly of WZLX?

Kimberley Jaeger, former WCGY Program Director now at WZLX?

Cha Chi?

Does a Greg Strassell have to come in and get hands on?

Mark Hannon drop everything and focus on that one, formerly key, signal?

On the occasions which I get to hear BCN, I've noticed the following:

Musically, they may be a bit unfocused from my perspective. Sometimes I'll hear a bunch of Classic Rock clumped together, and other times I'll hear Alt stuff. Conversely, sometimes they'll make strange leaps (for example, on Friday I heard 'em go from Aerosmith "Sweet Emotion" to Weezer's "Perfect Situation". Seems to me that segue could have used a buffer in between, but that's just my skewed perspective.

As for the DJ's, O/A are what they are, though I'd always prefer a homegrown show. I really haven't heard an inspiring local talent on BCN since Nik left. I also liked Parenteau as an air personality, if you can separate that from the off-air shenanigans. T/R have moments of entertainment, especially when Rich is doing a street bit, but ultimately they've not drawn me in.

I doubt he would want the aggravation and headaches at this time in his life. He went to Hawaii to get away from it.

I'd love to see him program a Classic Rock station, but I don't think he would be in touch with what kids today want in a current rock station (whatever that is).
