Grammy's 2010: Trying too hard?

Pretty good show, but many of the performances seemed to be trying to be spectacular, when they really were just average. I did like the opening with Elton and Lady Gaga, and the MJ tribute was pretty good.

Much less attention to actual awards, and more attention to performances. Some probably will like this, but it is STILL an awards show, and they seem to have lost sight of that this year.

The show was ok. Plenty of skin and some interesting performances. Pink, hanging and spinning from the ceiling, sopping wet and wearing extremely little, was definitely very interesting. Somebody had to trump Taylor Swift performing under a waterfall a couple of years ago. :D

Thought it was quite excellent myself. Pink, Black Eyed Peas and the Micheal Jackson 3-D song (damn I did not have the glasses!) were great. Yaylor Swift, embarassingly tone deaf. But overall, good show!

I still had a pair of 3-D glasses leftover from the Super Bowl about a year ago, and they worked!

THIS year? They gave out one award during the time I watched. To Taylor Swift of all people! I thought this show was about talent.

True, part of the talent being honored is the production, which creates the illusion Taylor has talent. People who watch her perform live have a different opinion.

The last several times I've seen Taylor Swift perform LIVE on television, I thought she was terrible (SNL, Grammy's, AMC, AMA). Will she even be remembered 5 years from now?

Wow, some may perceive that as a pretty good question; others, a pretty bold one. The fact is, not only is she a popular artist, with a lot of crossover appeal from country to AC, but she's way popular with teenagers. I just saw a rating where a Greensboro, NC country station reached fourth place in the 12-17 category. I'm curious as to where this and other country stations would finish in this demographic, had it not been for Taylor Swift's popularity.

I know there are some artists like Bob Dylan who really have talent but don't seem to have the ability to hit the notes right. She doesn't, and I couldn't tell she had any talent either live. Stevie Nicks and the others sure did.

As for music I like, I only heard three performances I liked. "How High the Moon" was definitely my kind of music. I don't know who Jeff Beck is, but he can play that guitar. Even though it was rock and roll, I heard the original on the radio yesterday and even that was rock and roll, even though it wasn't really. The Les Paul and Mary Ford version is fantastic.

Elton John and Lady Gaga singing "Your Song" and Roberta Flack and Maxwell's "Where Is the Love" were also good. My favorite pop station plays the originals of both.

Someone mentioned the Michael Jackson tribute. All I can say to that is ::). The man had talent, no doubt, but he rarely performed music I could enjoy.
