CBS announced this afternoon it will offer its O&Os and affiliates in the Mountain and Pacific time zones the option of broadcasting The 58th Annual Grammy Awards live on Monday, February 15. CBS had made it optional for stations, though early reaction is good, we hear.
The network had been discussing with stations the idea for several years, and station interest increased as social media put pressure on networks and stations to deliver shows live for a common viewing experience.
Today’s announcement leaves CBS’s broadcast of The Tony Awards as one of the last remaining major trophy shows to be broadcast on a delayed basis to western time zones. The Grammy Awards is jumping on the practice already followed by the Oscars, Emmys, and Golden Globe Awards.

But don’t fear, Californians who will be stuck at work or in traffic that Monday: Stations in the Pacific time zone that air the event live will also rebroadcast the entire Grammy awards telecast in primetime immediately following the live presentation.
The Grammys will take place at the Staples Center in L.A. The show’s runtime is a robust three-and-a-half hours.

So PT stations would air the Grammys live at 5pm, with a replay at 8:30, which pushes the late news to midnight and Stephen Colbert to 12:35. Where would the CBS Evening News go?
