Grand Ole Opry Broadcasts

I am looking for anyone who might have audio tapes of Grand Ole Opry shows, specifically from 1992. I have no commerical interest in these tapes, but I am just looking for one particular show for a friend who was on the Opry that night and would like a tape of the show just for her own personal use and to have as a memory of that night. Specifically, I am looking for a tape of the 2nd show on Saturday August 15, 1992. I have asked around and have found nothing and I have heard that WSM probably has a copy of the show, as I have been told that they do save the tapes in their archives, but as you would expect, they are very protective of these. Anyone who can help, or could give me a lead, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

does your friend have a manager or one at that time ?? someone that could act as a go-between to get to the archives ??

Highly unlikely unless it was some extraordinary event going on during this specific date....

Thanks for all the replies. It is appreciated. As far as some of the suggestions, TNN, who was televising the Opry at that time is a no go because they only televised a half hour portion of the 1st show and not the portion of the show that she was on. The artist in question is now retired from the business, so she has not current manager that could help her out. And finally, Walt, thanks for the information. I am not in the radio business, so I just thought WSM/Gaylord/Opry, saved tapes of all the shows, not just selected ones. Either way, I appreicate the answer and I thank all of those who responded. I will keep checking in case something else pops up.

Sorry Watt, did not mean to call you Walt. I did try WSM and if they do have them, they would not tell me. I had heard from someone else that if they did have a tape of that show, they are highly protective of those and would probably not offer them up.

Slow speed logger tapes (Magna-sync) were maintained by the station, later a digital cassette system was used to capture everything that was broadcast up until about 2003. These were only kept for a period of time then recycled as a matter of routine. The quality was poor on these and it was not intended for anything other than hearing what someone said and at what time. In recent years, the Opry shows are recorded onto digital media and archived. The radio station recorded it off and on but not consistently. Releasing these gets into a myriad of copyright and artist issues. Many are under the impression it is required of stations to record everything, but it is not. It is a legal double-edged sword. There is a skimmer, or scribe (PC) as it is with most stations but this is used as a critique tool by programmers, only records when the microphone is opened.

Even if they did keep video archives of the show... wouldn't they have been wiped out by the flood last year?
