The Amigo FM is a gated dual-band AGC + stereo expander + dual-band pre-emphasis limiter + bass boost + wideband limiter + wideband clipper + 15 kHz lowpass filter + overshoot clipper + MPX generator... all in one slimline box.
It can get quite loud, but the clippers are not distortion-cancelled, so it can get a bit grungy on sibilance. It is also not really doing any multiband compression, so it will not artificially exaggerate the brightness of whatever audio you're putting into it, giving it a very laid-back sound, akin to a barefoot Optimod 8100.
For those who wanted more sophisticated multiband processing, CRL actually did sell an "Amigo Grande" package, consisting of their Stereo Gain Controller, Spectral Energy Compressor (a 4-band compressor/limiter), and the Amigo.
CRL also briefly marketed their own digital FM audio processor, the DP-100, a.k.a. the CRL Millennium, which I've heard very good things about, however it was only sold for a few years until CRL merged with Orban, and at that point the decision was made that CRL would only sell analog processors while the Orban line would be devoted to digital processors.
Production of CRL's analog audio processors ended in November 2006.
