Gray buys WABI Bangor

WABI Bangor was Maine's first television station and currently is the nation's oldest continuously family-owned station, according to Gray. The station has long operated a news bureau covering the state capital of Augusta, which lies outside of its DMA. This transaction will reunite WABI with Gray’s station in Presque Isle, WAGM, which Diversified previously owned, “thereby facilitating further news and resource sharing between these stations,” Gray said.

The deal was approved by the FCC last month and was consummated last Tuesday. WABI is officially under the Gray umbrella. Neither the station website nor the copyright notice at the end of their newscasts reflect the ownership change, yet.

WABI has assumed Gray's website design, graphics and live streaming protocol (as has fellow former Diversified station WCJB in Gainesville, FL) and the website features a new station logo (not yet reflected in on-air graphics or mic flags.) Sister station WAGM (still) does not offer live streaming but does offer archived newscasts on demand (with a messed-up aspect ratio.)
