Greaseman Announces Two Month Hiatus on WMET Starting Friday

PRESS RELEASE

THE GREASEMAN SHOW AND WMET RADIO
PERFORM A MORNING DRIVE TRANSITION

Contact: Dennis R. Israel

Washington, DC, October 31, 2007 -- Upon completing a successful two-year run this month, The Greaseman and WMET Radio jointly announce that The Greaseman Show will take a hiatus following the morning drive program, 6 to 10am, Friday, November 2nd.

The Greaseman said, "I've been thinking about exploring other options in my life and the time has come! WMET has been a great experience but I move on with the thought of taking some time off and relaxing for a while. I am not retiring but I am taking a break from the daily pressures of doing the show. I will continue my video efforts on www.getalife.tv." When asked about what is next, The Greaseman replied, "My future plans will be announced on wmet1160.com."

Dennis R. Israel, General Manager of WMET Radio 1160AM said, "The Greaseman is a radio institution. Doug is one of the most talented radio professionals in the world! We will miss him but we leave our options open for the future. We only wish him well in his current and future endeavors. He is a dear friend and associate!"

WMET Radio will air Music of Your Life, with Deana Martin and John Griffeth, 6 to 10 am Weekdays, starting Monday, November 5th.

Any idea what his ratings are like? I listen to him via the computer up here in NJ

Where did you find that this was going to be a "Two Month" hiatus?

The WMET press release didn't mention any time frame...

My impression after first reading it was that the Grease would be gone long-term from the morning show and wouldn't necessarily be returning to WMET...

Hope not.

Grease was on the station before it went broker, and it's never been completely brokered. So I would say it would have taken some cajones for the owner to go to him and say he now had to pay to keep his job.

He was the only revenue generating show on the station so I think it is safe to assume he was not buying his time.

The funniest part of that whole press release:

Glorified brokered programming.

I actually like some of their shows. I don't know if Warren Brown or the WaPo is paying for his car show, but he's very informative. The MOR is fun to listen too when the morning drive is hectic.

BTW, WGRX in Fredericksburg is still airing the Greaseman, a sort of "best of" presentation interspersed with country music.

Since 2008 is almost here, Where will The Greaseman be in the coming year? Let me hear your thoughts.

Make it somewhere that streams on the East coast so I can get my Grease fix o’the morning before I hit the air at 530 Cntrl. Nothing like a few minutes of your radio hero shriekin’ while preppin’ your show to get ya pumped. My old partner was from Waycross Ga and listened to him, as did I, on 690 WAPE back in the day. Yes, I tried my best to “keep it in the 69 position”. Then, on DC101, and finally on line at WMET. Hey Grease, will ya autograph the album I bought in '78?
