After the Greaseman was taken off the air after an insensitive comment (at WARW?) in DC....I had heard that he was doing some kind of thing on a suburban AM station and hoping to syndicate?

Wasn't this station a daytimer from the suburbs he was trying this new project?

Whatever happenned to that effort?

Is the Greaseman on the air anywhere anymore?

Thanks!

In 2001, Greaseman bought time on some small AM stations in the region and began to syndicate a morning show that he would did from his house. In 2002, WDMV-AM 700 (WGOP at the time) in Frederick County, MD added him as their morning show and became his flagship station, and according to his fansite (http://www.greaseman.org), he's currently on the following stations as well:

WWGE-AM 1400 "The Edge" - Ebensburg/Altoona, PA
WQZK-FM 94.1 "netRock94" - Keyser, WV (3-7pm)
WGRX-FM 104.5 "Thunder 104.5" - Fredericksburg, VA (5:50-6:50pm)

Hope that helps!

His home station is known on the air as "DC Radio 700", licensed to the community of Walkersville, near Frederick. It's a rather anemic signal that was once scheduled to up power, but apparently hasn't done so. Right now, if you're lucky and have a decent radio, you may be able to pick it up mostly static free in some of the outer Maryland and Virginia suburbs of DC.

And as you might expect from the frequency, it's a daytimer, which has to go off the air to make way for 50,000 watt powerhouse WLW/Cincinnati.

Their programming outside of Grease is sporadic, and his show is often heard repeated later in the day.

How does he sound?

Does he sound like he's having fun?

Does he get any phone calls?

Does he sound like he's pissed he lost the "big gig".

I recently heard an old interview with him on the Larry King Radio Show on Mutual.

He was very full of himself.....and would say, "I wouldn't just take a job anywhere, I have to like where I'm working".

Is he ready to throw in the towel?

Thoughts?

I've listened to him very little since he got back on the air in 2002, but from what I can tell, he pretty much sounds like he always did. Once he found himself out of work with a reputation that made him nearly unemployable, it took little time for him to decide he'd take the work wherever he could get it.

WWGE airs Imus in the Morning now.

He also used to be on WKMZ, but since they are switching to oldies, he may not be there anymore.

Let's see, WRC, The Ape, DC101, syndication including WXRK and WZGC... now based out of a suburban DC daytimer. For those about to get into radio, if you do make it, never EVER believe your own hype. No matter how big your ratings are, the station can get along without you.

Greasy was also on CD-100 in Binghamton, NY during that time. It was a connection back to his beginning days in radio when he did nights on Top-40 WENE in the Binghamton,NY market.

Having known the Greaseman, and actually worked with him a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..I always felt sorry for what happened to him in DC. The problem with him..and for that matter all the jocks of that flavor..they are pushed by their keepers to become more and more edgy, and when they finally take that step off the cliff..their keepers stand back, and go "Well..we never wanted him to go THAT far!!" Yeah..OK you did. And if he'd gotten away with it, they would have pushed for more. It's that way with most shock-jocks or whatever label you want to put on them. Someone like Stern and Mancow have been savvy enough to not fall over the edge, but there are plenty more who when pushed by PD's & GM's to try for a bigger grab..they fail, and for the most part, they fail alone.

Amen...and-a waddle doodle-ah...

I'm surprised XM hasn't picked him up. The studios are right in his backyard.
BTW, I didn't think he sounded full of himself on that Larry King interview. I thought he sounded very humble and well-read.

An acquired taste these days, yes...But he truly marches to his own drummer. And you gotta respect that. He's a genius.

GREASEMAN ON LIVE365

You can hear the GREASEMAN on LIVE365.COM.

One of the posts below mentions Greaseman on the Larry King Show. CENTRAL JERSEY AIRCHECKS sells that great tape. Larry interviewed Greaseman & Scott Shannon on the same show. Great aircheck.

I believe my brother worked with Greaseman back in the day in Binghamton, NY. He hired Grease when he was the Program Director at WPOP in Hartford, CT.

That's the funny thing - compared to the Tsunami song, Grease's comments barely scratched the surface. Rick Delgado got work again six months later, and he's the common thread in two of the biggest radio scandals in modern times. Grease still scratches.

In the case of Greaseman and Martinsburg/Hagerstown's now defunct WKMZ, it gets interesting.

Despite the format change from classic rock to oldies, plans were made to keep Grease in the morning...but...there had to be changes. They wanted him to be more family friendly as that station was going towards that direction ( WKMZ, well now the calls are WICL, has since dropped commercials for strip clubs for example). In other words cut back on the sex/gay jokes and play more oldies which interesting he did increased the amount of that kind of music he played on his show. But when it came to cutting back on the sex, he didn't want to do it so he more/less quit WKMZ despite him being somewhat popular there. After all when he did his live shows in both Hagerstown and Martinsburg over the years they were almost if not totally sell-outs and when the oldies format had its debut WKMZ from what I heard actually had well over 1000 complaints because of the lack of Grease.

Had Grease adapted to these changes not only would it have given him the chance to re-invent himself and get new listeners but his show would have remained not only on WKMZ but chances are on Harrisonburg's WBOP as well since that station as well went oldies. He would still remain on Keyser's WQZK since that station pretty much adds their own music to his show and 700 WDMV...well like they really would care in the first place. He may have even picked up a few stations too. But he wanted to stick with the fudgepacking jokes and such and so it goes.

Another little known tidbit about Greaseman. The music he plays on his show, that was an idea that came from WKMZ not Grease himself since for many years ( in syndication ) his show was without music.

Hmmmmm...I just listened to that aircheck.

My response was that he seemed very full of himself.

"I wouldn't just work for anybody...I have to LIKE the people I'm working for!"

Jeesh, fast forward to today....and a little humility does the soul good!

Also, the interview included Scott Shannon.....and Grease seemed to take over the entire interview.

Again, he sounded very impressed with himself.

I wonder if he feels different today... ;-)

No, sorry.....No one wanted him to start making racial comments.

Genius?

What kind of genius kills the golden goose?

What kind of genius sullys his repution so much that he'll never land another lucrative position?
