Who were some of your favorite atlanta area DJs when you were growing or you just enjoyed listening to?

Mine would have to be Dave Marino from Z93 mornings.
 
I really enjoyed listening to Sean Demery on 99x for the afternoon drive when I was growing up....

I always felt we had a sub-par roster for dj's.. Looking at guys in New York like Dan Ingram and Cousin Brucie.. even the infamous Robie Yonge.. (Paul is Dead) We seem to always get the mediocre end of talent.

Willard back in the 96 Rock Days seemed more "common man" than the other dj's.

But, I've always been for the quiet understated types like Kirk Melhuish or even Scott Slade..

Steve from the Steve show also has that "above the crowd" fold without being too arrogant. The rest well have never done it for me..

Another one showing my age, but since I grew up in South Florida I would have to say hands down is Rick Shaw of the old 560 WQAM (this was before FM came on the scene). Rick Shaw, Jim Dunlap, Roby Young made up the powerhouse that was WQAM. I think Rick is still on the air down there on Majic 102.7 FM.

Speaking of WQXI alumni, I have always enjoyed listening to Red Jones on WKNG in Tallapoosa. Red did mornings on WQXI in the 60s.
 
I Enjoyed the old 96 Rock "Wake Up Crew" of Mark Mc Cain, Steve Mitchell and Kelly Kincaid in the mid '80s. Who could forget great bits like "Street Smarts with Mr.B" and "Clint's Culture Club"?

I think 96 had one of the best lineups back them with Kaedy Kiely at afternoon drive doing the original 5 o'clock whistle, followed by Willard in the evening with the perfect album side at 9:00 and Mackenzie Scott for late night. Beth Kepple did Psychadelic Psaturday. Those were the days! It was pre 99X, and Z-93 & 94-Q were still top 40, so the only real rocker on the dial had classic rock before it was considered classic. It was a big deal back then to say that the music was played on "Laser Disc".

Even when Nick Van Cleve and Jeff Jensen moved into the morning spot from 95 YNF in Tampa along with Lorna Love, the morning show wasn't bad.

Of course I was a teenager back then, and maybe things weren't really as great as I remember, but when I recall hearing my favorite radio station in the back seat of my old Baja Bug with Sabrina out in the woods (when Douglasville still had woods) everything was just perfect... That's why I'm on the air today.

I wonder what ever happened to Sabrina...
 
I think the guy that really got me wanting to do radio was Gary McKee from the old days of 94Q. I loved that station growing up, and the way that he and the afternoon guy Jeff McCartney messed with each other was just some great radio. They don't make 'em like Gary anymore.

Downtown Billy Brown from Star 94, Rebecca Stevens from B98.5, Les Brown from the late Magic 107.5, and Suzy Tavares from Q100. Where are they now?
 
I remember being in 4th grade with my first clock radio and waking up to Ross Brittan and Brian Wilson on Z93 with their "Ross & Wilson" show. That's when I first started "getting" radio.

No doubt it would be Yvonne Monet...she made me want to start DJ'ing through her mixshow on 99x from a few years back. As far as broadcasting goes, it would be Tracy St. George. I know she probably hasn't been around long enough yet to be considered like a legendary jock or anything, but she gave me hope that dance music does have a place in our market.

What ever happened to Mark McCain? I remember when he worked in Knoxville @ WRJZ in their top 40 days and left to go to Atlanta.

He sure did, and he was the PD at Z93 for many years as well.

Yvonne went to Dallas texas for a while. I think she was doing a talk show. She reappeared in the Atlanta area for a 2-3 months at the Newnan cluster of Clear Channel. She was show host on AM 720 the Voice (WVCC) from 3-7 pm. Now she is running a resturant called the Alamo, which was the old movie theater in Newnan.

If I'm not mistaken, I think they left to do a weekend show on 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles. If it wasn't both of them, then one of them went out there.<P ID="signature">______________

not forget, he began radio career at wacx austell, If memory Serves me
correctly!

he did news on thier show, along with steve mc coy, and mary glenn lassiter,
remember that name? before veve and sticky, on stink 94?
