I still miss the late Red Noize on Z93. I used to love trying to figure out what a series of songs he played had in common.

While we're talking about Z93 alumni, let's not forget Bob Baily(sp?), and Steve Mapel. Wonder whatever happened to those guys?

I grew up in the Northeast. So I gotta mention Dan Ingram, Cousin Brucie, Howard, Immus, and Scott Muni in NYC, and John DeBella, Pierre Robert and Butterball in Philly.<P ID="signature">______________

Bob Baily is at Sunny 100.1 in Canton, GA spinning oldies. This is in the northern rim of Atlanta and North Georgia. Website is http://www.sunny-100.com/crew.html.

I'd have to mention Willard Arbour (Willard from 96Rock and Z93) because he and I were in the same model rocket club as teenagers, and his working with his high school 10-watter (and later WRAS) inspired me to go work at WUOG when I got into college.

That said, my hands-down favorite has to be Steve Craig from 99x (The Steve Show Starring Steve). He's knowledgable, and his effortless style is something to behold.

Other mentions are Will Pendarvis (99x evenings from '92-'95), Chase and Woodside (Z93 mornings from '89?-'92?), and I forget the guy's name but he did afternoon drive at WSB-AM in '82

Anybody grow up listening to WFIL in Philly

Since there are a lot of NE transplants down here.

I grew up listening to Jim O'Brien and George Michael on Famous 56 WFIL in Philly from 1972-1976.

Steve Mapel is now doing lots of voiceover work, and if you listen closely
he is on a lot of commercials for richs, and several others.....I will never forget his first night on the air on Z-93 when they were top 40, several times he called himself Steve Mc Graw, then he admitted he had just gotton in from dallas and this was his on air name there... Those were the days.

Even when Nick Van Cleve and Jeff Jensen moved into the morning spot from 95 YNF in Tampa along with Lorna Love, the morning show wasn't bad.

I realize that this thread is super old but I just found this site not long ago and thought I'd post to this thread instead of creating a new one.

Anyways, I listened to the wake up crew on 96rock in my younger days, along with McKee, McCoy, JJ Jackson. I have several old cassettes from the 80's that I've made available online at http://www.u2radio.net/atlanta/

I'm curious to know whatever happened to Lorna Love & Jeff Jensen? I do know that Lorna returned in 98 to 96rock for a short time before being let go. Not sure where Jeff landed after 96rock. Just wondering.

Skinny Bobby Harper was fun to listen to in the late 1960's and early 1970's. So was McKee. I remember seeing McKee rolling in his DJ equipment on weekend evenings from the parking lot to Jerald's on Powers Ferry Road when it was an Atlanta hot spot.

As a kid I remember the Twins on Quixie as well as Big Hugh Baby.

I grew up in Detroit, and would mostly listen to Dick Purton in the morning before I went to school.

I also remember a DJ who called herself "Lisa Lisa"....she was on a top 40 station in Detroit (who's calls elude me at the moment). I had a bunch of friends over one time, and she put us on the air....and for a group of geeky 14 & 15 year olds, that was VERY exciting!!

In the early nineties I lived in North Carolina mountains and would listen to Dave Paul on WSB late nights. I would have thought I was the only one but I've seen a post from someone else who also lived in NC and tuned him in.
I don't remember specific dj's but in 1980 there was a rock station in San Jose, KOME. Instead of a a jingle like "most music while you work", they had "98.5, the [*** ****] on your radio".

[EDIT-vulgar language]

98.5 [EDIT ****-***]for breakfast! Yeah, radio was a lot less homophobic/FCC jackbooted then. Dennis Erectus would do bits on the air filthier than Penthouse letters.

"As a kid I remember the Twins on Quixie as well as Big Hugh Baby."

The first two LP's I ever owned were ones I bought from Big Hugh Baby when he was at WLAC/Nashville. He was a singer for the Jordanaires in the early 50's backing up Elvis Presley. He later showed up at WPLO/590 Atlanta and then moved to WFOM/1230 Marietta when PLO went country. I met him at FOM when I was a kid and hope to meet him again whenever I'm in Cumming on a Thursday. He tapes a 4-hr. Sunday morning show on Thursdays at WWVE.

When I was 15 and going to Osborne High School in Cobb County I had to walk by WFOM AM 1230 on the way home every day. One day I stopped in to see what a radio station was like and met Big Hugh Baby. He invited me to stop by in the afternoons and visit with him. That turned into running the board while he took a break, and then running the show for him for a few hours so that he just did the voice work and I ran the board, picked the music (yes, back then the DJ actually got to pick what to play next), and answered the phone. When I was a senior and 18, it turned into working the early evening shift (7-10p) under the name Steve King. The kids at our school had no idea they were talking to me when they called in their requests and dedications! I went on to help Hugh Baby at the world famous Big Hugh Baby's Hoparooni dances and his club. He was a great talent on-air and in public. I learned a lot from him and Jimmy Davenport during those years. As my graduation present Jimmy got me a job at the AM station in Cartersville and then brought me back to WFOM to work full time. (why do I feel like Ted Baxter?)

I remember listening to Red Jones, Gary McKee, and Gary McDowell. Man, those were good times. Radio was REALLY local. live, and fun to listen to.
