Great Discussion About Minority Ownership

Would be interesting to see when/how KYAC migrated from 1460 to 1250. KTW was on 1250...as I recall, paired with 102.5-FM.
Somewhere in there...SRO (Fred Danz) picked up 1590 (KUUU) and KTW-FM (may have acquired both KTW-AM/FM and had to spin one?) and I imagine it was at that point 1250 shifted from KTW to KYAC.
That move may have prompted 1460 to become kind of a local/MOR station for Kirkland (was based in the building above Anthony's) --- and after that at some point became Family Radio.

I used to track all this stuff in a database but after the PSRBA turned into a group of terminal asshole leadership I stopped trying to reconstruct all the history. Good for Jason Reminton and his efforts to keep that stuff alive!!

FCC database only shows the pass of KYAC to KKFX (K-fox) in 1981 then to the local people (later Disney) as KKDZ.
Kirkland calls I was trying to remember were KGAA (1984 transfer to KARR)

Lets see if memory is correct, KYAC was never a minority owned station.
1965 KTW 1460 became KYAC and they were there until I believe 1972 when they move to 1250mhz.
I believe around 1974 owners of KYAC purchased KIXI fm 96.5 and they became the first station in the nation to broadcast R&B in "quadraphonic",(saw 1 of those receivers at RE-PC the other day).
Ok so the fm side of KYAC only lasted a few years, and then it became KYYX, a station well ahead of Seattle's time. (Mr. O'Day you should have sat on that idea just a little longer)

This statement is wrong listed in Wikipedia:

It flipped to News/Talk in 1971. But financial problems would result in the station being sold and a format flip to R&B, along with a call letter change to KYAC in 1975. KYAC moved its format over from 1460.

It should state that it moved from 1460 to 1250 in 1971 and in 1965 it became 1460 "KYAC". It was never a news/talk station, that I remember. don't remember who or what was on 1250 before that. KYAC was on 1250 before 1975.

From 1981 to 1993 it was known as K-FOX KKFX. Now 1250 KKDZ
I remember the transition from KYAC to KKFX they were playing the KIXI am stuff for awhile.

The first and last on KYAC KKFX and still on air contact Frank P Barrow @Ztwins or go by MLK and cherry st and visit. Chris Bennet Broadcasting, a true minority owned entity.

Like I said these are only memories, so they're definitely open to debate and/or correction.

You're a little off....

True, KYAC was never minority owned.

KYAC started in Kirkland on 1460. In the '70s, there's a strange twist. KTW was trying to get the 1590 kHz frequency (then occupied by KUUU) and move KTW and it's news/talk format to 1590.

Then KYAC got into the act. They wanted to be a full fledged Seattle station. So they sold 1460 to Glo-Lee (KILO) and bought 1250 from SRO. SRO got 1590 and KUUU kept it's oldies format, changing to KZOK-AM a few years later and became KJET in 1982.

KIXI-FM was on 95.7

KTW was still on 1250 in 1974. The swap happened in 1975.
