GREAT DX CONDITONS FRIDAY AFTERNOON

This is proving to be a very active FM E-Skip season. Great skip again here in the Hudson Valley of New York, Friday afternoon July 14th between 3pm and 5:30pm. with 17 new loggings, mostly from the Northern Minnesota and Northern Michigan area, but Wisconsin, Illinois, and Canada also brought new ones. There were often 3 or more stations battling it out on a frequency, with quick choppy fades, making IDing challenging. The best log was actually the first of the afternoon, WNIE-89.1 Freeport, IL with 6000 watts at 806 miles. However, 11 new Minnesota FM’s were logged, bringing total to 41, making Minnesota my second-best “Skip State”. (Florida is #1).

Saturday morning July 15th saw some tropo, so I tried for and logged WBBO-106.5 Bass River Township, NJ on it’s new frequency and tower. “G-Rock”. 150 miles

Also there was some Florida and Georgia e-skip Saturday morning, enough to get two new ones from Florida. There is still some activity on the lower TV channels and the very low end of the FM band this afternoon, but nothing very pronounced (yet).

To check out specifics of my latest loggings, check out my website: http://hometown.aol.com/dx1ng/

Here's hoping these great openings continue!

I'm on the south shore of Long Island, close to Jones Beach, and I heard for about an hour on Friday, between 3 and 4 in the afternoon, 94.9 KQDS Duluth. I also heard what I think was an affiliate of Minnesota Public Radio on 91.7.

We were on the road west of Albuquerque and had a 92.9 "The River" from Branson, MO as solid as a rock for several hours.
