Great DXing yesterday

Yesterday (thursday) evening during the 7:00 hour, I was sitting in my car at ITT on Sprague Rd. just east of I71 in Strongsville and was picking up a station on about 95% of the frequencies. Excluding immediate adjacents to strong Cleveland signals (ie 98.3, 98.7, 100.5, 100.9, 101.9, 102.3, etc.) 89X, CIMX out of Windsor/Detroit was even bleeding over into 88.9 a little bit. I was also picking up the Indians game on 92.7 and 104.5 (or something close to that). Overall, I seemed to be picking up a lot of station west of Cleveland. Norwalk, Sandusky, Toledo, etc.

Anybody else have good DXing yesterday?

On 92.9 I picked up a top 40 or urban station out of Dayton. I think the station was Z93. Is this really out of Dayton or is this a simulcast. Out of Toledo maybe?

I also heard the audio from channel 19 (Who want's to be a millionare) on 87.9 and 87.7. Does anybody know some info on this? Tower location, wattage, etc. Also, what's the point of having TV audio on the radio? Is it to use in case of an emergency?

Really? Usually they do a job on poor 88.7 (WUJC)...
but to affect 88.9 (WSTB), is a first for me.

What you heard was a Channel 6 (audio).
The VHF TV channel 6 audio carrier is on 87.750 and was perhaps from Columbus...
that just happened to be running "Millionare" at that time.
Might have also been from a Michigan TV-6.

WSYX Channel 6 in Columbus does run "Millionaire" at 7:30 so that was probably what you heard..104.5 FM was likely WQKT in Wooster. They and/or sister station WKVX/WWST 960 AM has had Indians Radio for 58 years (from 1947)
92.7 appears to be WQEL-FM Bucyrus, according to an Indians Broadcast aafiliate listing from 2003.

I had a fun time yesterday.

For the first time, I was able to DX WNCI/97.9 for a few minutes! (An achievement in that here in Avon, I usually pick up either WJLB-Detroit at 97.9 or the usual WKDD at 98.1 ;)

I picked up WVNO/106.1, WYHT/105.3 and WSWR/100.1 all out of Mansfield with little to no problem for a while. But soon the first two station were drowned out by Canadian stations "Magic 106" CIMJ/106.1 and "Kool FM" CFCA/105.3 respectively.

WCKY/103.7 out of Tiffin, WFRO/99.1 and WOHF/92.1 out of Bellvue/Fremont, and WMRN/106.9 out of Marion were good catches. So was "The Coast" WMJK/100.9 out of Clyde/Sandusky... interesting because WMMS usually bleeds out WMJK over here...

The funnest DX was the French-language RadioCanada from London at CJBC4F/99.3 - I also picked up RadioCanada's counterpart, the CBC, via CBCL/93.5 in London.

Other London stations: the more powerful "95.1 The Rock" and "FM96" CFPL/95.9. Plus, "The Hawk" CHWK/103.9, "Energy 103" CFHK/103.1 and "Q97.5 Ez Rock" CKO-3/97.5 (competing for attention with WONE/97.5...)

There were many, many more, to be sure...

One of the things I remember from going on vacation to Beaumont, TX with my family was picking up the audio from KFDM/6 at 87.5 or so. IIRC, the FM band is squeezed into VHF channels 6 and 7...

Got some things from your part of the state and SE Ohio in Springfield yesterday. All that humidity and approaching front made all the difference.

A few things:

92.7 "Q-92" WQEL, Bucyrus presumably.
94.3 WKKJ, Chillicothe, country.
95.1 WXIL, Parkersburg, WV, CHR
96.7 WKOV, Wellston,OH. Almost full quieting..usually get WCSM, Celina if anything.
100.5 WKEE-FM, Huntington, WV
103.3 WTCR, Ashland, KY.

Also a "Joy 92" on 92.7.

WCKY-FM, on 103.7 from Tiffin seems to be there more than its not.
______________

"Joy 92" is probably WCVZ 92.7, South Zanesville, OH.
I think WTCR is licensed to Huntington, WV.

Yes, and no.

Yes, it is WGTZ / Dayton, Z93.

No, it's not a simulcast.

Good catch!

I was picking up both stations with a lot of static. But, I could make out the music from 89X pretty easily.

Re: Great DXing yesterday (WQXK)

Assuming there's a Courtesy Dodge on Youngstown Road, I heard WQXK on 105.1 under WUBE, Cincy.
______________
