OK, now that Mr. Shapiro has purchased WNNH 99.1 Henniker, WWHQ 101.5 Meredith and (Let's assume he gets) WWHK 102.3 Concord, what do we think he will do with them? I assume once they file with the FCC he will take control under an LMA so this could happen very soon.

WNNH... Current Format is Classic Hits

WWHK and WWHQ... Current Format is Classic Rock

Simulcast the Pulse on 101.5 in the lakes Region? Keep music formats the same on 99.1 and 102.3? What makes sense?

Let the speculation begin!

101.5 and 102.3 could stay the same, since they already simulcasted each other...99.1 is another story because its splitting off from its simulcast of WLKZ

101.5 and 102.3 HAD been simulcasting, they aren't anymore since Nassau had to ditch WWHK.

I would assume Mr. Shapiro would make WWHQ 101.5 a WTPL simulcast, this would greatly expand his reach in to the lakes region and they actually mesh quite well.

Perhaps we could see the return of Warren, Ken and more with the Green Machine and OLDIES 99.1!

As for 102.3 (if he gets it) that's up in the air... maybe turn around and LMA that to WKXL and do a simulcast for them?

Mr. Shapiro is a good, local owner... this should be exciting to see!

whats important is that hopefully some of the great radio people who have lost thier jobs in the last 3 years can get back to doing what they love, live local radio.

Simulcast of 107.7 on 101.5 sounds logical. Split spots? A straight simulcast without that has proven to be unsuccessful as far as billing goes. Look what happened to 99.1/104.9 when they combined them. He's also going to have some problems with the sports stuff if he simulcasts. Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins already on WEMJ but the Patriots are already on 101.5. I don't think he could carry them up there.

Will he operate out of Hooksett or build another facility in the Lakes Region? He has to have some office / point of control up there right?

99.1FM is the most interesting. I think he will leave Peter and Ken where they are. I also think Warren is very comfortable in his new line of work. That said there are still people like Andy Mack, George Bierbaum and Konrad Kane still around if he chooses to attempt to bring back Oldies 99. Does sound plausible but that ship might have sailed. How much brand equity is left there? I also don't think he'll have success without more of the key people that made that station successful in the past. To channel Rick Petino... "Clark Smidt isn't walking through that door. Dirk Nadon and Paul fuller are not walking through that door. Dave Gellar and Keith Murray are walking through that door..." If you could re-assemble some of the people that made it work before then maybe it could work. Wait, didn't Clark Schmidt help him launch 107.7? Maybe he'll help again. Murray is still around doing production work but Nadon is entrenched in Nassau, Gellar is in CT and I think Fuller is retired.

He's getting 102.3. Heck he's the previous owner! Did he have to buy it from himself if Nassau could not sell it? Interesting thought about a KXL simulcast. I think an all sports format would be very cool. That would open up a lot more opportunities for 107.7 to be more of a N/T format.

I Love these comments...

Warren Bailey was minimally involved with OLDIES 99 through Nassau. Ken Cail was there mid point. Bailey would have been a natural HAD they purchased WLNH.

Big Jim Kenton, Dave Emerson, Brett Mallard . St James could Vtrack a shift for old times sake.

101.5 as a repeater for The Pulse...107.7 already has a fairly good signal in the Lakes Region. So why?

102.3 is Mr Shaprio's. Maybe he'll put Smooth Jazz on.

And I believe Paul Fuller works for Citadel selling air.

I really do not think news/talk will work well in the lakes region. Leave 101.5 classic/active rock. Maybe make 101.5 a bit more hard leaning or alternative leaning. Put the Pulse on 102.3. 107.7 should be country. Hillsboro is rural and is a country dead spot. Bring back Oldies 99 on 99.1!!

WPNH seems to have what little alt-rock audience there is in the LR covered...why fight them over relatively few listeners/ad dollars?
AFAIK, 102.3 is not part of the deal, so that's off the table at this point.
Agreed that Hillsboro & surrounding area is a country audience, but it makes little sense to blow up 107.7 which is pretty established with N/T. 99.1 covers that area just fine, make that country. While all you old WNNH alumni may want to have a reunion, that was then this is now & 50s/60s oldies isn't making anyone any money these days.

WTPL has a FAIRLY good signal... expanding by adding (and splitting stopsets) with WWHQ would still be VERY helpful unless he can continue good billing with it's current format.

102.3 IS Mr Shapiro's....Nassau has nothing to do with it. They spent a pile of bucks leasing it and then ended up giving it back. I'm sure they're plotting and scheming wha to do with it.

101.5 should be independant, it's own format and idenity whatever that will be (kick ass rock would be nice), and a local community radio station. They can sell that and make money, too.

The Pulse has a nice Concord feel to it. The guys are good. Jack Heath is a bit much a times, but otherwise they work. No Lakes Region connection (alright, an ancient one with Peter St James who used to work at WEMJ).

99.1 as a true classic hits, not FRANK FM-ish (similar to WROR) would be fine. The name is still valid.

But..y'know...i DON'T KNOW AND UNLESS YOU'RE jEFF sHAPIRO, NEITHER DO you

Maybe they should just put it to a vote...or put all the formats and ideas into a big hat...?

no that's just foolish.

WPNH DID cover the lakes region pretty good until they moved their tower from Holderness to Tenney Mtn. Believe it or not, that was a bad move. The signal does not do very well in Laconia, Gilford, Belmont, etc. WPNH is very alternative....skews young. I think 101.5 should be active rock similar to what they are now....maybe a little harder.

Come on Old Bones. Play along! Assume 102.3 IS part of the deal. Have some fun!
Oldies not making any money? Has anyone noticed how many stations are flipping to Oldies nationally? And how well they are doing? Name the FM oldies station in the Lakes Region. Concord. NH. There's a hole. An opportunity...if done correctly.

Ah but are any of these oldies stations making money?
With a few exceptions, advertisers are not looking to reach the oldie P1's.

They tend to be 60+ developing prostate problems and the vast majority are stuck in the past.
OK, I'm broad brushing, sorry.

Classic Rock artists, and a good portion of the male driven audience for Classic Rock are "oldies" themselves. Upper enders.

So that'sthe same arguement. Oldies/Classic Rock.

Also..who is making moeny hand over fist?

'Oldies' is such a vague term. I hear 'oldies' and I think sock hop/American Graffitti type songs. It's an (older) age thing, I'm sure.
