Great job with the 9/11 anniversary

Wow, what a terrific job WSYB did with the 10 year anniversary coverage of 9/11. Yes, I am being very sarcastic. Can anyone tell me what they did to pay respects to this historic event, or was it once again missed? They had to have done something. The news LEADER had to have done some sort of tribute or specail programming, right?

Arnold, the keeper of the keys of all things WSYB on radio info..May I ask thee, if you think you are being hyper-critical here? Without taking anything away from that horrible Tuesday in September of 2001, if you wanted to hear or see any type of 9/11 tribute, why would you go there ? Wouldn't you watch it on television or perhaps stream one of the great New York City all news AM stations that could deliver the story better than anyone, being right there in the NYC ?

When all hell was breaking loose in Rutland with the horrible flooding, I found out what was going on by catching SYB's audio stream since I do not live in Rutland anymore. They provided the community with timely information as best as they could. I doubt anyone there could get info like that anywhere else.

Just trying to put it all in perspective for you, there Arnold.. Be well buddy !

Overall, most radio in the BTV area did a poor job of covering the ceremonies on Sunday, 9/11 morning. Only two stations that had anything was VPR and, all of all places... CJAD, who had a guy live at the Ground Zero Memorial. WVMT was running an infomercial about some dietary supplement.

Gadon, let me first begin with the Flood coverage. WSYB did NOT provide valuable information. If you listened carefully, all they did was provide speculation and rumor. The host, yes, the wonderful host, like his usual routine, knew nothing and did nothing. They didn't confirm anything, and that is typical fashion for that station and group. And, with all due respect, for a NEWS LEADER, to NOT do anything for the 9/11 Annivesrary is a disgrace. But then again, so is that radio station. Didn't they cover the story as it happened back on 9/11/01? But only now does WSYB get a free pass because of them not being a New York station or a TV station, or because of a flood. Give me a break! I know people are pounding on me for getting all over WSYB, but when you look closely at what has happened to that radio station, they deserve it! The lead morning show host is lazy, and doesn't give a crap about anyone but himself! The sports guy can't read, and even Tim Philbin is reaching to fill 3 hours. Fact is, this once proud and respected radio station , is a laughing stock. And they only have themselves to blame. Problem is, they don't care! I respect people's oinion on this, but they will never convince me that WSYB did nothing other than drop another ball because they are lazy and just don't give a damn anymore!

The way you rag on this station, is it safe to assume you were fired unjustly by them at some point in the past?

Arnold.. It is not about a free pass.. That night with the flooding, I am sure it was hard to get information with so much of the area really hit hard at the time. They did the best they could with what they had.. Rumors and misleading stores can happen at a time of crisis. It was a radio station serving the community as a public trustee of the airwaves.

At the time of 9/11 with all the destruction happening, there were all sorts of unconfirmed happenings and some misleading stories reported. It's out there on some podcasts from that day on cbsnewyork.com. It's easy to be a arm-chair quarterback, but something like this on a huge disaster like 9/11 or a huge local disaster like Irene, comes with no playbook. I would think that you know that.

Who knows Arnold, if you play your cards right, maybe Pam and Al's father can sell you WSYB. Then you can program it as you wish. Just remember, you may find another "Arnold Poon" ready to pounce at every programming move you make..

Not trying to bust on you there, buddy !

I just wonder why, after all this time, WSYB still gets your goat. Even though I cruise by here from time to time to offer mini-comments, I've pretty much abandoned the idea that anything great will happen with radio anymore, especially in Northern New England. Why complain to deaf ears? ???
