Two recent converts to the Soft AC format got positive news from the January ratings. WLIT Chicago made the switch right after its all-Christmas format wrapped up on Dec. 26. The Holiday ratings were double digit as usual, but now WLIT is #4 in Chicago. And it has the market's highest cume. WLIT has varied from Mainstream AC to Hot AC over the last few years, with so-so ratings, except for the December and Holiday ratings, when it sees its numbers double and triple.
In Philadelphia, WISX finished at #9 in the January ratings. Through the last few years, when the station has varied from Rhythmic AC to Hot AC to Classic Hip Hop, it has been poorly rated, among the lowest ranked full power FM stations. So #9 is good. Since it didn't go all-Christmas during the holidays, WISX didn't get the boost that WLIT got in Chicago. In January, WISX was seventh in cume.
Here's the Soft AC Scoreboard for Jan '19:
Chicago ............. WLIT (iHeart) #4
San Francisco ..... KISQ (iHeart) #4
Philadelphia.........WISX (iHeart) #9
Miami ............... WFEZ (Cox) #1
Seattle .............. KSWD (Entercom) #10 tie
Detroit .............. WDZH (Entercom) #14
Minneapolis ....... Love 105 (Cumulus) #20 (Three simulcast low-power stations)
Tampa .............. WDUV (Cox) #1
Sacramento ....... KBEB (iHeart) #12
Jacksonville ....... WEZI (Cox) #8
The numbers for KSWD were a bit disappointing. It took a hit during the holidays since it doesn't switch to Christmas music. It had been up to #4 at one point. WDZH and KBEB are new converts to Soft AC, so even if they didn't post great numbers, they are doing better than their previous formats. Given Love 105's signal constraints, finishing at #20 isn't a surprise. Let's see if it can climb as time goes on, as well as WDZH and KBEB.
