Great Rock Market (Obviously NOT Here)

Bravo to my old home town of Albany, NY for ADDING another rock station to its market! When Stern left the airwaves WQBK/WQBJ 103.5/103.9 "The Edge" (active rock) morphed into Q103 with Classic Rock. This past weekend the active rock RETURNED on 104.9 WZMR which was country. I know its saturation in the market but now Albany has: 1) 93.7/94.5 Rock 2) 102.7 Classic Alternative 3) 103.1 Alternative Rock 4)103.5/103.9 Classic Rock 5) 104.9 Modern Rock 6) 106.5 Classic Rock. I know NYC is deemed a non-rock town but its hard to believe 150 miles to the north 6 rock stations can exist while we struggle to keep just one. Thank god for XM.

That's just the way the New York market is - totally diverse. No full-time active rock, no country, no standards - what are you gonna do...
______________

New York City Radio and TV

Agreed...every market is different....take CHR, in which San Francisco (at market #4) doesn't have a mainstream outlet...or look at some of the differences between the WHTZ and KIIS playlists...

If you want to move relatively near by to an area that has a lot of rock stations, could always just head up to Boston:

104.1 WBCN - Alternative
107.3 WAAF - Active Rock
100.7 WZLX - Classic Rock
105.7 WROR - Classic Hits
92.9 WBOS - AAA

and shooting in from the suburbs:

North - WGIR 101.1 (Active Rock), WHEB 100.3 (Active Rock)
South - WHJY 94.1 (Active Rock), WBRU 95.5 (Alternative)

That ought to take care of plenty of rock needs...

Gosh do I feel dumb for forgeting those...thanks for the correction...

Plus, you can get classic hits/rock on WFNK/Nashua, NH (106.3) and WWFX/Worcester (100.1) depending where you are in the metro. Boston's north shore can also yank in Classic rocker "the Shark" from the nearby Portsmouth, NH market. The area does like to rock.

Unlike New York though, Boston has no Smooth Jazz station, no mainstream Urban (WBOT recently flipped to Urban AC) the commercial classical station is about to bite the dust and there are no dance/disco stations either. Just about every market has some format holes. New York's happen to be rock & country.

For what ever reason, Albany has had alot of Rock stations for many years, now!
Albany was even featured in the Rock section of Radio and Records, back in 1994, because of the number of rockers, in the market. Than, as now, there were six full time rock stations, on the air there. Presently, there are three Modern Rockers, and three Classic Rockers. There is also a Classic Rock leaning, rimshot Classic hits station. In addition, there is a full time FM Oldies station, and a full time AM "Real Oldies" station. Not trying to gloat...

Boston has no FM Spanish format station .
______________
LAPD tell the truth ! Who did that to B.I.G.

I would consider WJMN 94.5, Urban mainstream, and WBOT dayparts with Urban Contemporary at night, and on weekends

Boston has at least 6 Spanish stations on the AM Dial, and this does not include the suburban Spanish formatted stations.

WJMN is not Urban Mainstream . WJMN is CHR/rhythmic . Unlike Urban stations , WJMN is always late on adding new music . WJMN is no way like HOT 97 NYC . WBOT is GONE . WBOT is now WILD-FM . WILD-FM is Urban ( afternoon and weekend ) and Urban A/C ( Daytime and overnight) station ,which make this station a total mess .
______________
