Here in Boston, WCOZ 94.5 and WCGY 93.7 "The Rock Garden."
NYC - sadly WNEW 102.7.

In the central valley, it was KDJK-95.1 Oakdale, CA where I used to work at. Numerous others that I can think of in California include, KKDJ-105.9 Fresno, KSAN-94.9 San Francisco and KZAP-98.5 Sacramento.
 
96Rock/WKLS-Atlanta was sent to the radio graveyard in Nov 2006. Sadly, it had been on dying a slow death since the end of 1990s/begin of this decade.
 
I second that on the original 95.1 KDJK, with Beaver Brown in the morning, the Psychedelic Supper on Monday nights??, Jazz on Sunday Mornings, No Repeat Workdays on Thursdays, etc..

Actually it was spelled like this "Psychedelic Psupper". Also don't forget that we also had on Sunday Nights: the syndicated "Metal Shop" (Heavy Metal Rock) and long before "Loveline" there was "Sexually Speaking With Dr. Ruth Westheimer". Also on Monday Nights was "Rockline". Those were the days.

I second axedriver (and that's WCKW Laplace-New Orleans-Baton Rouge ;) ) and add KZMZ 96.9 Alexandria,La. when they were playing new rock with the classics about 3 years ago (they've turned to become a ho-hum classic rocker)

The granddaddy of 'em all (IMHO), 94.7 WQDR in Raleigh, NC, gone country since '84. Also, to a lesser degree, WRDU, 106.1; also now country.

Reaching waaaay back, Farmville, NC once had an AOR with WRQR at 94.3. She lasted 2 or 3 years, went thru several format changes, then went country. I think I see a pattern here.
 
Not so much in the last 5 years or so of it's life, but 101.1 KLOL-Houston has to be mentioned. One of the oldest rock stations in the South, before being dismantled for Spanish pop in 11/04.

Boston has had some other decent Rock stations that have come and gone over the years. Including:
94.5-WHDH-FM 1967-1969
100.7-WTTK 1976-1978
103.3-WEEI-FM 1969-1972 (The Young Sound)
740-WCAS 1973-1981
1550-WNTN 1970-1976

z106 wstz jackson vicksburg ( now owned by clear channel and completly destroyed)
100.7 the tiger baton rouge
k94 ksmb lafayyete where louisiana rocks! 1979-1984
wzxr rock 103 memphis --pre z103 1986

rock 107 hammond la . also had a translator on 95.3 baton rouge

WQFM/Milwaukee was a great rock station. They weren't a B-A "Superstars" client like most AORs were in the early 80s so they didn't follow national trends. They were much harder than other rock stations and didn't play any pop crossovers.

By 1985 they were playing lot's of classic rock which sounded fresh at the time because it was so well rested. Songs like "Badge" by Cream and "Hypnotized" by Fleetwood Mac sounded awesome. In retrospect they should have gone all the way with classic rock, maybe QFM would still be around today? Instead a classic hits station (WKLH) came on in 1986. The following year QFM got younger competition from LAZER 103 (now the HOG). KLH and LAZER sandwhiched WQFM which spent a slow painful decade of death before eventually flipping to Smooth Jazz.
 
When I use to visit family members in the Daytona Beach area in 1980s & early 1990s I would listen to WDIZ Rock 100 Orlando.
 
While in college in Austin, Texas, during 1973-1977, I happily listened to KLBJ-FM 93.7. NO Morning show. NO crass and obnoxious commercials. NO wise-ass on-air "Personalities". NO commerical "pop"-rock dittys---- Just COOL and GROOVY album music 24/7. From everyone from Frank Zappa, to Bob Dylan, to Joni Mitchell, to Dave Mason, to Led Zeppelin. Great laid back music. Great Hard Rock music. Back then, commerical rock.... Sweet Home Alabama, and I Shot The Sheriff ilk, was on the "other" FM station.... the one that clueless beer guzzling frat boys listened to.....

Now, KLBJ-FM is just another corporate rock station, playing in rotation, the same commerical stuff over and over.... blah...blah...blah....

There was a Golden age of Rock FM programming. Corporate Rock is neither cool, or groovy. But here in America, it's more important to sell beer, than it is to convey music that is culturally enlightening and uplifting.

There's alaway been a place for sophomoronic rock, like Stoke Me, Smokin' In The Boys Room, and Bad To The Bone......

What I want know is why there isn't one rich person that would would be so civic-minded as to operate an FM Rock station sans the junk??

America, radio-wise.... is a cultural WASTELAND. Does it have to be that way??

I wuould hope that the FCC would see the dis-service that corporate conglomerate FM rock is foisting upon America. Defacto censorship is Alive ad Well in the U.S.A.....but people are making money..... so no one worry.... not one bit!!
