Wikipedia (FWIW) comes across as to doubt this. YMMV....

Mason Williams played Classical Gas like he had 10 fingers, on each hand!NightAire said:We've danced all around this one but I don't think anybody's mentioned it: Classical Gas by Mason Williams.
Conquistador's debut in '71 scored some airplay on FM, but was worthy of much more acclamation than it received.EZway2go said:Some of these are more pop than rock, and I'm not sure if this thread is supposed to be for songs actually based on classical pieces, but these seem to have a classical flavor...
"Conquistador" Procol Harum...
Feliciano plays like he has ten hands....... I sat front row, center stage, at a feliciano concert and to this day , I still don't beleive what I saw, and heard that night.jfrancispastirchak said:Mason Williams played Classical Gas like he had 10 fingers, on each hand!NightAire said:We've danced all around this one but I don't think anybody's mentioned it: Classical Gas by Mason Williams.

... The B-side of Muddah/Fadduh was a little ditty called Here's To The Crabgrass, an ode to life in Suburbia, and sung to to the tune of English Country Garden.jfrancispastirchak said:cd637299 said:And who can forget, to the tune of "Dance of the Hours":
"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" by Allan Sherman* <ducking tomatoes> [*There is also "Like I Do" by Maureen Evans, which was a hit in the UK, with the same melody for the most part.]

I don't think "Roll Over Beethoven" counts...Chuck Berry is dicounting his works out of hand for goodness sake! Joel's "This Night" was indeed lyriced to L.V. Beethoven on th LP credits.
I specifically mentioned ELO's version of "Roll Over Beethoven," which would indeed qualify for a mention here, because it starts out with a bit of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. A little more of it on the album version than on the single mix, but it's there on both. As for other artists' versions of it, you would be correct.amfmsw said:I don't think "Roll Over Beethoven" counts...Chuck Berry is dicounting his works out of hand for goodness sake!
