Great South Wireless buys another 97.7 in Alabama

I found this on Radio & Records today about Great South Wireless buying WKLD in Oneonta. I Wonder if their plans are to simulcast WKLD and WHPH in Jemison to cover the Birmingham area once the sale goes through. Somebody on here mentioned that on the board a while back, about the possibility of the two stations simulcasting Spanish programming since both the St. Clair and Chilton county areas have fairly good size Hispanic populations.

Doesn't Great South own a station in Thomaston, also? Seems like the Thomaston FM is on 97.7, too. :)

Here's the link to the R&R story:

I don't know what Great South will do with this station but they're also buying a App. which allows this station to move to the north, with decreased power, if approved.

For more info, about this move, check out this link: http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq_legacy.php?facid=5885

Looks as though the application was accepted for filing just about a week ago. Trying to get the signal into the Huntsville market, no less.

How'd you get RECnet to go to its 'old' maps? Those load much faster than their Google maps.

The story about WKLD and WHPH was in the "Taylor on Radio-Info" daily newsletter this morning. Great Wireless has also filed an application to increase WHPH from 3.1 kw to 13 kw (as a C3), moving the xmtr between Jemison and Montevallo.

Here's the info on Recnet for WHPH:

Thanks, never noticed that link.

Looks like the WHPH app's 60 dBu service contour still won't cover Hoover.

And the new app for WHPH is probably the farthest north they can put a tower without making the fine ownership of WNCB 97.3 perturbed.

I renew my calls for an obscene (financial) offer to be made to Glen Iris Baptist for WQEM 101.5.
(How do I know that's not what they're waiting for? :D)

Does WQEM offer *any* extra coverage to 91.9? I wouldn't think so, especially since 91.9 moved off of Red Mountain.

Not from any coverage map that I've ever seen.
