Here's my problem with it all. A stream is a URL. Saying I can only listen to your stream in iheartradio is like saying I can only view your website using Firefox. One of the engineers at Town Square told me they expect Tune In to pay them to list them in the directory, since they're using their bandwidth. Can you imagine them telling Firefox they have to pay 101.5 to access nj1015.com in Firefox?
It's a stupid restriction that has 2 results:
1. You lose out on inclusion. NJ 101.5, since pulling off Tune In, can't be heard on the Roku, or in almost any alarm clock app on iOS, or on Windows Phone. Just their (crappy) radioPup app.
2. People in the know will figure out the stream URL (it's not hard) and plug it into the app of their choice. I still listen to 101.5 in Tune In, but now instead of seeing their logo and schedule, I just get a generic graphic.
