Greater Media

Greater Media Flips WTKK, Boston to Rhythmic CHR as “Power 96.9.” The demise of Greater Media’s news/talk WTKK, Boston has been known for more than a week but the format of the new station was uncertain until it kicked off at 10:00 am today. With Rihanna’s “Diamonds” the first song played, the rhythmic CHR branded as “Power 96.9” debuts

I'm not staying that this is going to happen to 105.1. Maybe Greater media will try something similar like a Rhythmic Ac for Detroit.

To bottom line it, Soft Rock 105.1 hit a 3.9 last year before the music tweak. Since then, they haven't come close to that, and for December(when AC stations take over), they were 2 full points behind WNIC. 105.1 needs to understand that unless they just decide to take on 96.3, they won't get 96.3's ratings. Pass up Fresh 100.3, and then chase bigger fish. Crawl before you walk.

Yes, but I think they were getting higher cume at the expense of hitting the desired demos.

I can think of no other explanation for the switch.

I liked the Soft Rock format but there must have been some reason it was dropped.

Someone at Greater Media thought they were the smartest guy in the room, and thought that they could keep their ratings and audience(3.9 cume around 930,000), and were sadly mistaken. It would be nice for 105.1 to use that out of the box thinking that they had when they tried Soft Rock 105.1, but try something a little different.

Oops my mistake here's the final!
It's Rhythmic AC In Boston As WTKK Becomes Hot 96.9
After nearly a week of on air stunting, the wait is finally over. GREATER MEDIA has unveiled WTKK as the All New HOT 96.9, "The Rhythm of BOSTON."
[EDIT]

Now if they could do that here, that would be great!
Give the adult's some great throwback's here in Detroit.

If Greater Media does bring this format to Detroit let's hope they execute it better than WDRQ and WDTW did.

If Greater Media does bring this format to Detroit let's hope they execute it better than WDRQ and WDTW did.
In fairness, Channel 9-5-5 rebranding and reimaging themselves and pummeling 93.1 led to WDRQ flipping to Doug FM. Also, some people believed that the station's owners wanted a Jack-type station before CBS Radio could do it. And 106.7 The Beat was never really going to be programmed to have more success than 95.5. Greater Media could pull this off since their other stations are Rock stations, and they are less likely to take listeners from those stations.

if this works in Boston then maybe Greater media will try it in other markets as well.

Major group owners have stations that have not broken from the middle or lower of the pack. I'm fascinated that none have gone after WOMC. The station month after month has top 4 ratings (except for Christmas). Why not another oldies station?

The boatload of money necessary to go after a very well-established competitor. Revenues for 2012 were pathetic. No money to pull off a switcheroo right now.

WOMC isn't really Oldies anymore. They're more like WNIC was before the (ill advised) flip to 'Fresh'.

CKWW, 580 AM is the only Oldies format in the market as I perceive the format.

I like WOMC, don't get me wrong, just clarifying what I think they've evolved into.
