I rate the intro to “Honey Don’t” as his best, and the long version of “Matchbox” with Duane Eddy and the Mavericks as a close second.Silkie said:Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins
“Dixie Fried” is a country two-step rock-a-billy song with no outstanding guitar riffs. In fact, the instrumental backing is rather amateurish sounding. Without knowing, I would say this was a late night filler at Sun studio just to complete a session after the union musicians were paid and went home. On a Perkins 1 - 10 scale this is a One.cyberdad said:GridLeakBias said:Just about anything Perkins did has a great intro, although many of them were very short, usually not more than two bars after a pickup note. Where would you rank "Dixie Fried"?

The GM of my very first station came into the control room and said, "give me that," or something to that effect. I was empty-handed at the time, so I said, "give you what?" He then referred to the record I was playing. I don't even remember what it was, but it was something on an indie label. After it finished, I handed it to him. Next day, it was back in rotation, only this time as a "gospel" song! (We were a country station at that time.) Only thing that confused me was that I had been playing that record as a "country" song for six months! ???cyberdad said:Only time the PD came in and physically broke the 45 in half was just after I played this on the air. Of course this WAS Iowa. (Guy thought it was somehow "dirty"). But that was the precise moment....in 1972....when it crossed my mind that I might prefer being in another line of work!Silkie said:Using Me - Bill Withers
