GREATEST RADIO STATION PROMOTION NEVER DONE

Wouldn't it be a great radio station promotion to get listeners to either write in or email their favorite dj liners? Think of some the entry possibilities.....

1-(call letters) play the most music
2-Here's the first of ten in a row commercial free
3-I'm (your name goes here) and my request line is open at (phone number)

or how about liners from the past for any type of nostalgia station such as.....

1-Just answer your phone with the phrase that pays (call letters) is my radio station
2-(call letters) music and more
3-(call letters) where the hits just keep on coming

let's go even further back.....

1-stacks of wax, designed for you in mind, climbing the platter ladder

Why? What possible good would that do? What do you do with the mail? What is the motivation to write in?

Now if you'd said this would be something good for Saturday Night Oldies or a similar themed show, I could buy that. Otherwise there's no point.

Looks like Bob's skipped a groove again.

Wax? what is this wax you referr too? What is a platter?

I sometimes feel guilty when I goof around and say 'Digging in the crates', some get it. some dont.

now excuse me, I need to check out that new sound the kids call 'rock & roll'!

No offense, Bro, but that's one of the dumber ideas I've heard. No listener knows what a liner is, and they shouldn't. You'd be bringing industry buzz words out in the open. That's something every PD and consultant I ever had taught me not to do - and I continued the theory when I became one. I still adhere to it. Play the hits, keep your bits short and good or don't do them and keep industry stuff within the industry. One man's opinion.

Now, here's a promotion: For Thanksgiving, we could always throw turkeys out of a helicopter, they can fly can't they?

Now there's a promotion idea worth talking about.

Some smart promotions guy at a real radio station took the KRP gag and turned it into a real event. They even hired Richard Sanders ("Les Nessman") to do the live remote. Fortunately the turkeys in this case were paper and contained coupons or some such.

This thread that I started was written totally facetiously and not meant to be taken seriously. As far as the live turkey promotion on WKRP, it was based on a true story and really done at a radio station with similar results. Turkeys can't fly. There was also a case of a station dropping cash with a rubber band around it from a helicopter.
The rubber band was supposed to break and the paper money was supposed to blow over a populated area but, that is not what happened. The rubber band never broke and the cash dropped like a bomb into an open field. As far as this thread goes, I am surprised that anyone would have responded and taken it seriously.
