Greenville has a new mayor! Does this mean there will be a turn around in the city and maybe some better days for radio?

Call them up and ask how many spots you can get for a chicken.
 
When a "major" player in a market drops rates just to pick up the extra revenue they hurt the entire market. While broadcasters cannot or should not "fix" rates there has to be some degree of common sense used in pricing. There are only so many units availalbe per day (6a-7P). 12 minuets and hour for the time period only allows 156 units a day. Add in some trade and maybe a bonus spot here and there and you have situation where making a living becomes somewhat difficult. Oh well, glad it is not me that is fighting that battle!
 
I took a quick trip down yesterday for a sandwich at Pasquale's and the traditional "I used to live here where this parking lot is" and "this used to be something else" and "that's gone forever" drive around town. The two things I forget are 1) how flat everything is, and 2) how far AM signals travel down in the delta. I was picking up 1330 (at 1 KW) and 1260 (at 2.4 KW) 75 miles away, and Memphis stations were coming in like locals in Greenville. I have trouble picking Memphis stations up like locals in Memphis sometimes.
 
Depending on how long it has been since you have been to Greenville I'll bet you did not remember the blight, the fallen down houses, and vacant store fronts either.
 
I've been down often enough that not much shocks me anymore. As Walt reminded me recently, the very equipment we used daily back when to broadcast from WJPR and WDDT is literally on display in a museum. I should take a hint.
