GREEN ACRES COMING TO ME-TV

Looks as if Me-TV can only add one new show per season. They are airing a new "Summer"
promo with Green Acres included in it. It's not on the schedule for the next two weeks though,
so debut is unknown. It is an MGM show though.

I've seen the promo, too. Looks like improvement for MeTV: staying true to the classics.

Oh by the way...your accuracy is almost right. Green Acres is a Filmways show in which MGM owns a bulk of most of its programs from that company for syndication. I'm quite sure you knew that.

It's already on WHT (the Lester Summeral channel)...

I remember when WHT used to be a subscription broadcast channel back in the late '70's/early '80's...

I think you're referring to Wometco Home Theatre. This is World Harvest Television (see also, LESEA--Lester Summeral Evangelistic Association).

One of my all-time favorites. It's surreal sense of humor is greatly under-appreciated.

In what time slot is Me TV planning to run it? I am never home to catch the WHT broadcast at 4:30.

Amen, Brother!!!......Plus, the show has a healthy subversive streak to go along with that!

We have Jay Sommers to thank, since "Green Acres" was his brain-child. For a number of years prior, he had been one of the writers for ABC's "Ozzie & Harriet", but felt confined by the norms of conventional sit-coms of the time.

"Green Acres" allowed him to let his vivid imagination run wild.....and I thank him for that!

He was aided and abetted by Dick Chevillat (who wrote for the Phil Harris- Alice Faye radio show) and Richard Bare (who created the "Joe McDoakes" series of short comedies).
Sometimes "Green Acres" seemed to occupy the same universe as its Filmways stablemates "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Petticoat Junction" - but other times it went off into its own realm.

Such would be the case of OLD MAIL DAY, where Sam Druker (?) hands out stacks of mail
that have fallen between the floor boards and into the pickle barrel.

I also enjoyed the electricity show where Lisa has to add up 1s and 2s in the kitchen so
the generator won't blow.

EXACTLY ! ! !......Or...The Douglass' constantly being forced to climb the telephone pole in order to use the phone because the Hooterville Telephone Company never did get around to putting the phone INSIDE the house....LOL.

OR....How many times did Oliver Douglas try to "fight the system"....only to be beaten, bloodied and bruised by the system time and time again?

I'm kind of disappointed that Me-TV rarely updates their entire schedule. I quit watching after I had seen Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, etc. through twice. They have some good shows, no doubt, but they need to change things up more often IMO. They changed it much more when it was a local Chicago station.

I love "Green Acres" and couldn't be happier to hear this. Do you know when it will air? Our local affiliate, WLKY, has decided to air local news during the 7 to 9 period. I'm very happy the "Hillbillies" and PJ were moved to the 6 a.m. hour.

Did you know that Green Acres started on radio as "Gramby Green Acres" as a summer series with Gale Gordon and Bea Benaderet? Here is a link to more information on the radio series, and links to the programs:

That seems to be the main problem with Me-TV. It's great at first, but how long can they keep it up?
5 years or less is my guess...........I've stated before that their model has to change at some point.
The most logical thing would be to put some old game shows into the mix TO TELL THE TRUTH,
TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, etc. Even the newer color TTTT's from the 70's would be a good fit.
I'm starting to see the same again and again on most of the shows I watch also.

They need to show it full-time here in Dallas instead showing those damn paid programming crap and religious shows.

...would you believe my ISP still does not have a Fargo hole??

The whole http://www.maggiore.net/greenacres site is great! Chock full o' GA trivia. Test yourself! ("Granby's" didn't have the bite, of course, that GA on TV did; but radio/TV wasn't ready for that kinda humor yet! And, being only on radio, well, so much was missing.)

I just hope that GA on MeTV does not get the "GA on ION" treatment from 5 years ago, with the compressed video/dialogue. Aaaggghhh!

(Those who know me here, know that I have said that GA is one of those rare shows that got *better* as it went along. My favorite episode of all is "The Beeping Rock" from Season 5, which I saw on Hulu.com a while back.)

They lost me in the mornings when they took Love American Style off and if they discontinue Kojak and Rockford I'm gone fastest than than a virgin on prom night.

Just heard the sad news of the passing of actor Frank Cady...best known to those of us in the "Boomer Generation"...as General Store Owner "Sam Drucker", a cast member of both "Green Acres" and "Petticoat Junction".

He was blessed with a long life, and passed at the age of 96.

RIP Frank Cady You will be missed! Everyday we wake and enjoy the sunshine with friends and family is a gift from above, in this regard Frank Cady was truely blessed. He was a very lovable actor and will be remembered for many years beyond our lifetimes in televisions hall of fame.
