Green Bay's New Smooth Jazz FM

Still another example of the many outstanding songs featured by Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7-FM...it will be a cold day in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks when this song plays on Milwaukee's Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI-FM.

Song - LEAVE IT WITH ME
Artist - ALEXANDER ZONJIC (ZON-chick)
Album -SELDOM BLUES

Yet another hauntingly beautiful song featured by Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7-FM, a song which will never be heard on Milwaukee's Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI-FM.

Song - LATE NIGHT SESSIONS
Artist - FLUFF
Album - CHILL, VOL.3

Ratings just came out and Moo-92.7 got the best ratings in ten years,
including their polka days!

Not surprising...not surprising at all!!

FYI, I just returned from Destin FL, where I had a chance to listen to Panama City's Smooth Jazz 105.1 FM for several weeks (nearly nonstop). As I indicated earlier, they also use Jones, and I have to say, it is the best musical programming I've ever heard. They played the latest by Joyce Cooling (don't remember the name), as well as several other fantastic new releases that will never be played by the mainstream
SJ stations or XM/Sirius.

I'll try to get the titles of these songs by listening to WAUN 92.7-FM.

Following are just 2 of the outstanding NEW songs that I heard on Jones Smooth Jazz/WASJ 105.1 FM Panama City Beach FL during the past month. It's sad to know that I'll never hear these songs on the very bland, boring, repetitive Milwaukee's Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI-FM...

Song - AT THE MODERN
Artist - JOYCE COOLING
Album - REVOLVING DOOR

Song - JUST FEELIN IT
Artist - MICHAEL MANSON
Album - JUST FEELIN IT

There were several other quality new songs WASJ 105.1 FM Panama City Beach FL played that I will try to identify through WAUN 92.7's playlist, one by a new female Brazilian vocalist. Stay tuned for those!!

I've ID'd another hauntingly beautiful song played by Jones Smooth Jazz/Panama
City FL's Smooth Jazz 105.1 FM/Green Bay's WAUN 92.7-FM

Song - RUNNING
Artist - ELIANE ELIAS
Album - AROUND THE CITY

Song Sample - http://tinylink.com/?H6oUM5x94J

It again saddens me that I will never be able to hear songs like this locally. :( :(

Yet another example of the many outstanding songs featured by Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7-FM, Green Bay, WI...another a classic smooth jazz hit that I heard several times on WASJ 105.1 FM Panama City Beach FL, and just played again on WAUN 92.7-FM, Green Bay, WI ...not suprising that this is a favorite of JSJ's Online Music Panel...just another example of the type of songs Vice President/General Manager Bill Hurwitz, President Bill Lynett and PD Stan Atkinson at Milwaukee's Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI-FM don't have the guts, imagination, or creativity to play.. :(

Song - PLAYING WITH FIRE
Artist - KIRK WHALUM (W/PETER WHITE)
Album - UNCONDITIONAL

DoubleD,

Ah I had always wanted to listen to WASJ! Is it any good? They have a great looking logo! But I have indeed listened to that satellite smooth jazz and have to disagree. Satellite smooth jazz is CRAP SJ radio! There is this one DJ who almost sounds like Ben Stein - VERY boring and VERY bland! Not only that, for samll market stations, they sure have lots more commercials than the mainstream ones.

WJZI 93.3 is a decent smooth jazz station to say the least. But you're shutting out several others. You ever hear the non-commercial WGRZ 93.1 The Groove in Melbourne, FL? Or how about WNUA 95.5 from Chicago? My favorite smooth jazz DJ is on that one - Danae Alexander. Or how about KOAS 105.7 The Oasis out of Las Vegas, NV? You can't go wrong with WZJZ 107.1 of Fort Myers, FL either. They are MUCH better than that satellite crap you're raving about - IMHO.

I haven't heard these ones yet but it is KSFQ 101.1 The Cat out of Santa Fe, NM and NYC's WQCD CD 101.9 which I'm sure is better too. When I am home and on the computer, I don't even listen to any Milwaukee stations. I go right to ones that stream and if there's a certain one that I like that is not streaming, I go right and listen on the phone or something, that simple.

My goodness, most of these posts are by you Double D on this thread! Ok, if real radio didn't convince you, compare what you heard on the Jones Network to smoothjazz.com. Have you ever heard or heard of Sunset Jazz? Now THAT was some spectacular smooth jazz! Best smooth jazz channel I have ever heard! Too bad it's gone. Wonder what happened to it? That's where I first heard of Dotsero - great band! Damn, what went wrong with Sunset Jazz? The only good thing about Jones SJ is their version of "Rainforest" by Paul Hardcastle. Otherwise else, it's crap SJ radio.

I've listened to WJZI since it's inception...it's entirely possible that they may have played it at some point, but I've posted songs here that I've never/rarely heard on WJZI...it would be kind of silly for me to post songs that both stations play. ???

Yet another simply outstanding SJ song played by Jones Smooth Jazz and

Song - TWENTY
Artist - THE RIPPINGTONS
CD- 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Keep up the good work Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7-FM ...it's music like this that sets you far above everyone else!!

Yes! Double D! The songs you are ranting about are awesome. I haven't heard Fluff but I know the rest. I have The Rippingtons and Manson. I posted elsewhere that I finally heard some Jones. Awesome music. Haven't heard Wind Chill Factor by Matt Marshak. Bought that CD in the summer. I heard whatever song SJ stations were playing at the time, and I didn't like it. but usually if the song has musical integrity I gamble that I'd like other songs on it than what I heard. Wind Chill Factor fits the bill for me. I listened to it all summer! I do actually like the new Paul Brown "Rhythm Method" track. I bought the CD and whoa! You better listen! Jones seems so much like they know what they're doing. In your mind, Double D, do you think they'll ever give us what eludes us music fans...a second track on these CDs in addition to the focus track or single? It would have been great hearing Peter White's "Mister Magic" simultaneously with "What Does It Take To Win Your Love" back in the fall. Just for a little spice. Just an additional track in light rotation and possibly "discover" the next hit. The Nils song playing right now, don't like it. Too bland. But I have the CD and Catnap I believe it's called would make me a fan of any station that played it right now.

Matt Marshak's "Montauk Moon" is played by Jones, and it is awesome. Fluff I would consider "Chill", and it is hauntingly beuatiful!!

In talking to Steve Scott, PD @ WJZI back in '03, he stated emphatically that management was very "dedicated" to the heavily researched format, preferring to abide by the "focus group" model.

My point to him was (which he agreed with), if these so called "focus groups" are never exposed to good songs (which he acknowledged they are not), how will they ever know the difference?

Steve wanted to incorporate more variety, but was instead shown the door.

No, sadly I do not see commercial SJ FM ever breaking from their stoic, rigid, myopic mindset when it comes to musical variety within the SJ format, if WJZI is any indication.

But perhaps, the corporate bubbleheads will take notice of the successes enjoyed by the likes of Jones Smooth Jazz affiliate, Green Bay's Smooth Jazz 92.7, WAUN-FM, and change their ways.

JSJ's music is so superior, others like WJZI are doing themselves a huge disservice when they ignore JSJ's quality. And the end result is a lose-lose situation for everyone; i.e., WJZI degrading into just another AC station at the expense of its listeners.

Song - AT THE MODERN

Album - REVOLVING DOOR

On The Dave Koz Radio Show this weekend, Dave had JOYCE COOLING as his special in studio guest. He featured the very best song on her new CD, AT THE MODERN!! :) :)

What an outstanding song!! Why more SJ radio stations don't play this track is beyond me!! :( ???

and PD Stan Atkinson at Milwaukee's former Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI-FM didn't have the guts, imagination, or creativity to play. Instead, they convert the station to bland, vanilla AC elevator music! :-[

Song - JUST BETWEEN US
Artist - NORMAN BROWN
Album - JUST BETWEEN US

Well, I just received and completed my first ever Smooth Jazz Online Music Panel Survey used by Jones Smooth Jazz.

I have to say that although JSJ selects the songs for the survey, I cannot think of a better way to program a smooth jazz station than to let its loyal listeners rate the music.

One of the songs surveyed this week is the following...it is songs like this which, IMHO, really set JSJ far ahead of the pack, and in particular, far ahead of of Broadcast Architecture's bland/cookie-cutter/vanilla SJ product...

Song - Jericho
Artist - The Weekend Players
Album - Pursuit Of Happiness

Keep up the great work Jones Smooth Jazz/WAUN 92.7-FM!!
